Valorant devs reveal new anti-cheat method to keep cheaters from ruining ranked

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent in the competitive world of Valorant, I can’t express enough my gratitude towards Riot Games for their latest announcement – Ranked Rollbacks. Cheaters have been an unwelcome thorn in the side of every dedicated player, ruining matches and wasting our precious time and resources. The thought of getting my lost Ranked Points back if a cheater is caught after a match feels like a dream come true.

It’s no fun at all to engage in a competitive Valorant game that includes a cheater, resulting in lost Ranked Points (RR). Luckily, Riot Games is working diligently on a resolution for this problem.

During the September 2024 developer update for Valorant, Riot Games unveiled several significant updates planned for the remaining patches in that year. Players can expect a host of adjustments to the Sunset map, along with a toning down of the game’s most powerful Sentinel agent.

Beyond the major changes, Riot Games also revealed plans for a new feature called Ranked Rollbacks. This means that players will get a refund on their Ranked Restrictions (RR) if they lose a game against a player who was later found to be cheating and subsequently banned.

As a dedicated player, I’d like to share an important point for those who value fair play. While this doesn’t affect those who are caught cheating during a match, it ensures that if a cheater is found after the game, they will return any Ranked Rating (RR) you may have lost due to their unfair actions.

The response from fans online was predominantly favorable, since unfair play spoiling games is dishearteningly frequent among players.

One player excitedly expressed, “The thrill I’ll feel when I receive my race car back will be incredibly exciting.

Some spectators pondered if this feature might solely serve as a means for cheating, and wondered if Riot Games was contemplating implementing the Ranked Rollback mechanism for players who intentionally lose games or exhibit highly offensive behavior instead.

Currently, Riot Games prioritizes addressing cheaters who spoil other players’ games, hence this system is specifically designed for identified cheaters following their defeated matches.

Besides this, Riot also shared that they are dedicating efforts towards revising their policies and intensifying punishments for serious misconduct among players.

These plans go as far as introducing hardware bans for offending players. This will ensure that cheaters and toxic players will be banned from playing Valorant on their console or PC, no matter which account they’re on.
