Ubisoft Games Set to Launch on Steam from Day One. The Company Admits Big Mistake from 5 Years Ago

As a gamer with decades of experience under my belt, today’s news from Ubisoft has left me feeling somewhat like a long-lost reunion with an old friend. The French gaming giant has finally seen the light and decided to mend their ways, which is music to our ears!

As a diehard fan, I’m thrilled to share that although Assassin’s Creed: Shadows has been postponed, Ubisoft just dropped not one but two fantastic updates for us gamers!

  1. First, the company admitted that Star Wars: Outlaws was severely unfinished at launch and promised a series of updates that would bring the game into its desired state.
  2. Secondly, the poor sales of this Star Wars game prompted the French giant to change its publishing policy on PC. This means that PC versions of future Ubisoft titles will be released simultaneously on Steam, Epic Games Store, and Ubisoft Store.

Essentially, what was said is that the French have changed their mind regarding the decision they made back in 2019 at the launch of Anno 1800. Originally planned for Valve’s platform, it didn’t end up there. Pre-orders before its release allowed people to play it on Steam, but it was absent from the store until December 2022, approximately four years after its initial release.

Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, Immortals: Fenyx Rising, Far Cry 6, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, The Settlers: New Allies, and The Crew: Motorfest initially debut on the Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store, but arrive on Steam at a later stage. Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, which turns one on October 5, is yet to be released on Valve’s platform, but following today’s announcement, it may come to Steam before Assassin’s Creed: Shadows (February 14, 2025) and even before Star Wars: Outlaws (November 21, 2024).
