This Awesome Asian-Fantasy Sekiro-Like Metroidvania Is Finally Coming To Consoles

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen games evolve from 2D sprites to immersive virtual worlds. Red Candle Games’ departure from horror to action-adventure with Nine Sols has certainly caught my attention. The Taopunk aesthetics promise a unique blend of futuristic and eastern fantasy, something that’s been missing in my gaming library.

Red Candle Games has officially announced that their Sekiro-inspired metroidvania, titled Nine Sols, will hit shelves on PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox on November 26. A fresh trailer for the game has been unveiled by the studio, and excitingly, it’s also set to debut on Game Pass on its release day.

In the game “Nine Sols,” you play as Yi, a brave character who seeks to dethrone the oppressive rulers known as the Nine Sols in the land of New Kunlun. The creators have dubbed the style of this game as “Taopunk,” which blends futuristic cyberpunk elements with traditional eastern fantasy and folklore. Despite its demanding parrying mechanics, the developers have included adjustable damage settings to make it easier and less aggravating than the game it’s modeled after.

Previously recognized for developing chilling games such as Detention and Devotion, Red Candle Games now offers something radically different with their new release, Nine Sols – a vibrant, colorful platformer that breaks away from the grim atmosphere of their earlier works.

Back in 2022, I successfully backed a game called Nine Sols through crowdfunding, and this May, it finally dropped on PC! This title has been earning some serious praise, with a 83 score on TopMob’s affiliate site, Metacritic.
