As a film critic with a penchant for gritty, character-driven dramas and a soft spot for private investigators (thanks to my childhood obsession with Magnum P.I.), I couldn’t be more thrilled about the renewal of “Sugar” for Season 2 on Apple TV+. The first season left me hooked, and it seems like we’ll be diving back into the labyrinthine world of Los Angeles and its darkest corners with our hero John Sugar (Colin Farrell) once again.
“Sugar” has been renewed for Season 2 at Apple TV+, EbMaster has learned.
The initial installment of the show featuring Colin Farrell premiered on Apple TV+ in April, and he is set to reappear in the second season.
As a passionate movie reviewer, I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the captivating series that follows me, John Sugar, a seasoned private detective navigating the vibrant streets of Los Angeles. According to the official synopsis for Season 2, I find myself once again immersed in LA, tackling another missing persons case. This new investigation serves as another piece in the intricate puzzle surrounding my own missing sister, a mystery that continues to haunt me. Stay tuned for more gripping adventures!
It’s been absolutely fantastic watching global audiences connect with ‘Sugar,’ and we’re ecstatic to be coming back for another round,” said executive producers Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg. “We owe a debt of gratitude to our collaborators at Apple, our showrunner Sam Catlin, the talented Colin Farrell, and, without a doubt, our viewers. We can hardly wait to bring John Sugar back into action again.
The initial cast of the first season featured Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler, and Alex Hernandez. Mark Protosevich is the series’ creator. For Season 2, Sam Catlin will take on the roles of showrunner and executive producer through Short Drive Entertainment. Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg will serve as executive producers for Genre Films under Kinberg’s Apple TV+ deal. Additionally, Farrell, Scott Greenberg, and Chip Vucelich are also executive producers.
Matt Cherniss, Apple TV+’s programming head, remarked that ever since its debut, ‘Sugar’ has captivated audiences with its intriguing mysteries and unexpected twists, thanks largely to Colin Farrell’s outstanding performance at the core. He praised the team consisting of Colin Farrell, Simon Kinberg, Audrey Chon, and others for skillfully merging different genres to produce a gripping series that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, eagerly speculating about what lies ahead for Detective John Sugar in season two.
Upon debut, the show garnered positive responses from critics, boasting an impressive 81% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes for its first season alone. The unexpected twist in its sixth episode sparked lively discussions among viewers as well.
