PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary already on resale for thousands after near-instant sellout

As a lifelong PlayStation enthusiast, it’s disheartening to see yet another limited edition console slip through my fingers like sand between my digital fingers. I remember the thrill of waiting in line for hours to grab the original PlayStation back in the day, and here I am now, staring at a sold-out sign on my screen.

The pre-sale for the exclusive 30th Anniversary version of the latest PS5 Pro commenced on September 26th. However, avid gamers were let down when they discovered that the console quickly ran out of stock – and now it’s being advertised on resale platforms at a whopping five times its original price.

The limited edition bundle celebrates the console’s history with a sleek grey design that’s reminiscent of the original PlayStation. Only 12,300 units were available worldwide, and despite the £960 price tag, the ones that went on sale were snapped up straight away.

People attempting to purchase one on Amazon UK found out promptly that they had run out of stock mere seconds after pre-orders became available at 10 AM. Many people voiced their annoyance on social media, stating that the console seemed to be in stock, but the transaction failed when they tried to put it in their shopping cart.

One user expressed their frustration by saying, ‘There was a ‘Add to Cart’ button for me, but when I pressed it, nothing happened. It was quite disheartening.’ On the other hand, individuals attempting to purchase through the official PlayStation site found themselves in a queue, yet they had sold out before reaching the front.

#PS5 Special Edition for its 30th Anniversary Sold Out Quickly

Bought Within Two Hours of Going on Sale.

Feeling let down, couldn’t secure the limited-edition anniversary model! I’ve been a fan since day one. Resorted to getting the standard PS5 Pro instead.

Following their rapid sellout in the UK and Europe, these consoles started popping up on sites like eBay at significantly higher prices than their original cost. A single controller can fetch as much as £300 or $400, while the complete bundle has been listed for an astonishing £5,000, equivalent to approximately $6,680.

Fortunately, a few individuals who couldn’t secure the special edition PS5 found an alternative by snagging the standard PS5 Pro instead, both of which were available for purchase simultaneously.

If you’re in the U.S., you can grab the bundle later today. The sale starts at 7 AM Pacific Time or 10 AM Eastern Time.
