Prime Video's Tomb Raider Live-Action Series Should Start Filming In 2025

As a dedicated gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I’ve grown up with Lara Croft and her thrilling adventures through the Tomb Raider series. So, you can only imagine how excited I am to hear that Amazon is finally bringing the iconic character to life on Prime Video!

More recently, Amazon Prime announced the green light for a live-action Tomb Raider series developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. She came aboard the project in early 2023. Now, Amazon Prime shares some insight on when the upcoming Lara Croft escapades will begin filming.

Vernon Sanders, head of Amazon MGM Studios television, shared with The Wrap that their team is deeply engaged in the project. They have an abundance of excellent content and Phoebe’s involvement adds to their enthusiasm. Their prediction is to spend the remainder of this year preparing for production, allowing them to begin early next year.

Sanders added that the casting process for finding our Lara Croft has not begun at the studio yet. He mentioned, “It’s important we begin the worldwide search for our Lara Croft as soon as possible, so we can start the selection process.”

Waller-Bridge and Prime Video are keeping quiet about which version of Lara Croft – the seasoned adventurer or the younger one from the reboot series (last seen in 2018’s Shadow of the Tomb Raider) – will be the focus of the new Tomb Raider show. In related news, Amazon Games has announced that their upcoming Tomb Raider game won’t have any connection to the TV series.

Instead of “While Prime Video’s Tomb Raider is still years in the future, the animated Netflix series, titled Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft, will debut on October 10, featuring Haley Atwell lending her voice to the character of Lara.”
