Pokemon Go players are tired of waiting for a Gen 7 favorite to be added

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of Pokémon playing under my belt, I can’t help but feel a twinge of nostalgia and frustration whenever I think about Mimikyu, the enigmatic Ghost/Fairy-type from the Sun & Moon era. This elusive little creature has been on my wishlist since its debut in 2016, and yet it remains absent from Pokémon Go.

In the Pokemon Go game, a character initially introduced during the Sun & Moon period is yet to make an appearance, and this absence has sparked discontent among players who view it as a squandered opportunity.

Players have been asking for Mimikyu, a Pokemon introduced in Generation 7 with a Ghost/Fairy type, to appear in Pokemon Go since 2016 because its resemblance to Pikachu is hinted at by its name.

A highly praised post on Reddit expressed, ‘We’ve been waiting years for this character to join Pokemon Go,’ followed by, ‘For how much longer must we wait? We desperately want Mimikyu in the Halloween update, not another Pikachu costume version of it.’

Participants in the discussion proposed various explanations as to why Mimikyu hadn’t made it to the shores of the mobile game yet. One theory suggests that the reason might be due to the challenges involved in adapting Mimikyu’s unique ability, Disguise, to fit with Pokémon Go’s battle mechanics.

Someone suggested that Niantic may have paused working on Mimikyu’s abilities for now, as they try to find a way to incorporate them.

People have been wondering why so many cosmetic items inspired by the Alolan native Pokémon have been launched, given that it’s currently unavailable to catch. “I know what you mean,” another chimed in, suggesting they might have overlooked a special event as well.

As Halloween approaches and Ghost-type Pokémon usually take center stage during related activities, many gamers are eagerly anticipating 2024 as the possible year when Niantic might expand the Alolan Pokedex. So far, the developer has remained silent about their plans for this year’s festivities honoring the spooky season.

Additional information about that topic will be provided soon, but until then, there’s lots happening in Pokemon Go! The introduction of Dynamax in Max Out has brought the Galar Legendaries Zacian and Zamazenta for the first time. Meanwhile, Mega Gardevoir is currently appearing in Raids.
