She’s joining forces once more with her Dawson’s Creek co-star Joshua Jackson in a self-authored film trilogy titled Happy Hours. Holmes is not only acting but also writing and directing this series, which follows two characters (Holmes and Jackson) as they navigate their relationship amidst career demands, family obligations, and the chase for love, despite life’s hurdles. As reported by Deadline, other stars in the film include Mary-Louise Parker, Constance Wu, Joe Tippett, John McGinty, Donald Webber Jr., Nathan Darrow, Johnna Dias-Watson, and Jack Martin. Filming for the first movie began this summer, with the subsequent films following closely behind – let’s hope we won’t have to wait years to discover their shared fate, just like we did with Doctor Odyssey. We’re in desperate need of a fresh story after the presumed end of that series.

Holmes has plenty of experience in directing, having directed an episode for The Kennedys: After Camelot and three feature films – All We Had (2016), Alone Together (2022), and Rare Objects (2023). She’s also familiar with Jackson as they worked together on Dawson’s Creek during the early 2000s, a time when their characters were an item, residing in New York. The pairing of Jackson and Holmes is reminiscent of a successful reunion – the charm of their past series without the burden of meeting expectations built over two decades.
