Metaphor ReFantazio with Low CPU Usage, Poor Performance and FPS Drops

As a seasoned gamer who’s been through the trials and tribulations of optimized and unoptimized games alike, I can’t help but feel a familiar sense of déjà vu with the performance issues surrounding Metaphor: ReFantazio. It’s like we’re stuck in a never-ending loop of “launch game, battle lag, repeat.” But fear not, fellow gamers! I’ve been there before and I’m here to guide you through the troublesome terrain of CPU utilization.

The creators of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series have released a sneak peek of their latest game, Metaphor: ReFantazio, with a prologue demo available now ahead of its full release on October 11th. The game will be playable on PS4, PS5, Xbox series S|X, and PC. Unfortunately, some PC players are experiencing bugs, such as low sound levels and bad performance with constant stuttering. Let’s see if there’s a fix.

Metaphor ReFantazio – Bad Performance Explained

These days, it feels like a given – most newly released PC games or ports seem to struggle with optimization. Regrettably, the demo for Metaphor: ReFantazio is not exempt from this issue, as players have been reporting significant FPS drops and other performance troubles.

Some people have speculated that those issues stem from inefficient CPU utilization. It seems the game is primarily relying on a single CPU core, which can significantly bottleneck performance, leading to frame rate drops and other gameplay hiccups.

Luckily, there is a tweak you can try:

  1. Launch the game and then open Task Manager by pressing Ctrl + Alt + Delete.
  2. Go to “Details” tab, and right-click on Metaphor.exe.
  3. Click on “See Affinity”. If all cores are checked, untick them, leaving only the first core ticked, and click “OK”.
  4. Rick-click on Metaphor.exe again, select “Set Affinity”, tick all cores, and click “OK”

In this Steam conversation, numerous gamers have found a solution that works for them, but it needs to be reapplied every time you launch the game.
