Man Accused Of Stealing $10,000 Worth Of Switch Games From Libraries

A person was taken into custody following allegations that they swiped over ten thousand dollars’ worth of Nintendo Switch video games from various public libraries across Northern California.

On Facebook, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office announced on June 17th that they had apprehended Jamal Reed-Obafumi, a 45-year-old resident of Oakland. They claimed that he is associated with at least seven separate library burglaries in Marin County.

Authorities claim a man allegedly took approximately $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch video games from different local library branches between April and June 2025. As reported by authorities, he is facing twelve felony charges, which encompass several burglary instances and committing a felony while on bail bond.

In a previous statement, the Sheriff’s Department expressed that our libraries serve as vital parts of our communities and should be preserved so they can continue being enjoyed by all.

Seven libraries, unidentified due to stolen Switch games, offer approximately 200 titles for loan through the Marin County Free Library. The fate of the missing games remains uncertain as it’s undisclosed if any have been retrieved.

In recent times, this incident marks another instance of a reported theft involving Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. According to the police report, over one million dollars’ worth of these gaming devices were taken from a delivery truck.
