I’m eager to find out what the conversations were like prior to the cast agreeing on this project. Did they use a PowerPoint presentation or mood board? Or perhaps a reality TV show synopsis guide to get everyone aligned? Given that each cast member appears to be filming different shows, it seems unlikely that they had such a formal process. Leah is giving off strong vibes of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Connor is struggling in the role of The Bachelor. Kaylor is impressively handling a Vanderpump Rules typecast. Kendall and Liv are rebooting Jersey Shore. Kordell is creating a behind-the-scenes Instagram Reel for a CeraVe commercial. It’s like a smorgasbord of reality TV genres, and that’s before considering Aaron – and possibly others too – who doesn’t seem to be excited about being here at all.
Sadly, Liv is spending the evening at her Hollywood apartment with Kendall. She lays out various trays of snacks, but JaNa unexpectedly helps herself to a Fruit Roll-Up from her handbag. They all reminisce about the Love Island Summer Party™ from last night. Kendall insists he has feelings for a girl named Alanah from the party, but it’s hard not to notice more chemistry between him and my sponge when I make scrambled eggs. They discuss Connor’s upcoming birthday party, which JaNa won’t attend due to her ongoing feud with him. Liv is indifferent about it since she isn’t sure if she wants to see Kaylor, so of course she’ll show up. Liv talks at length about how Kaylor had a spray tan appointment on the same night as the boyfriend-birthday-party-snub incident. JaNa acts as the narrator, and we learn about the intricacies of spray-tanning. The whole situation feels like Elle Woods solving a case using hair perm techniques, but without any excitement.
When Leah, Serena, and Kaylor go out for drinks, Leah talks about how she’d marry Miguel and how he’s helping her in ways he didn’t cause problems for and providing the encouragement she didn’t know she lacked. I sometimes dream of a show focusing on Leah and Miguel (or any PPG couple) going about their daily activities, like spending time at the farm with Miguel doing chores. However, reality shows highlighting couples often lead to relationship issues. On the other hand, Kaylor is taking her relationship with “Kaleb” from “the Montana Boyz,” a group known for TikTok posts that attract attention, to a new level by mentioning his name on live TV. I’ve looked into these guys, and they don’t seem like my type. Leah and Serena are advising Kaylor to limit her contact with her ex Aaron if she feels uncomfortable, as maintaining a low profile while staying appealing is an option for this show, and they are committed to that approach. By the way, Kaylor hasn’t spoken to Liv yet.
Aaron enjoys peace, watches dolphins, and prioritizes his mental wellbeing, which is perfectly fine with me. Connor encourages Aaron to start dating right away, but I’m not buying into Connor’s storyline yet. Even sponsored posts seem more intriguing than the anticipation of Connor’s drama-filled birthday party. On the other hand, Kordell transforming his teeth into a water gun and Serena’s strategies to keep Milo off the kitchen counters are truly engaging!
As a movie buff, I find it intriguing that this show appears to be shot at diverse commercial sets, lending an authentic feel to the scenes. Though I yearn for deeper exploration of the mental transformation from everyday beauty to a brand ambassador, the behind-the-scenes setting in the makeup trailer seems more genuine compared to scripted outings. Moreover, I’m all for multi-tasking, like JaNa and Kaylor rehearsing lines for a makeup ad while simultaneously discussing Kaylor’s ongoing spat with Liv. JaNa, caught in the middle, is skillfully maneuvering between the drama and her own feud, creating a captivating rivalry reminiscent of pro-wrestling personalities. Ladies, take note – learn from JaNa’s finesse!
Have you heard? Today is Connor’s birthday, and he’s making sure everyone knows about it. He’s been flaunting his shopping spree and even asked Aaron to change his black T-shirt because he wanted to wear one too – it’s like he can’t contain his “It’s my birthday!” excitement.
Meanwhile, Kaylor’s close friend Caley is visiting from Pennsylvania. I can’t help but think about how much happier Kaylor seemed before joining Love Island. Her eyes well up as she reminisces about a year ago when she and Caley were delivering drinks together. Kaylor, there’s still time! Go back to your old life!
Given that only around ten people are watching this show, I believe Kaylor could quickly recover from the post-villa mental health struggles by following Aaron’s protocol and returning home with Caley in less than 18 months. But instead, Kaylor seems to be planning her next encounter with Heather Gay, quoting her famous “RECEIPTS!” monologue and plotting for their next Liv meetup.
At “that particular kid’s party,” Connor navigates a line of other men in black attire, attempting to persuade us that Kendall Kaylor Caley Connor resembles the name of a law firm. If your law firm shares this name, I humbly suggest you seek alternative representation – perhaps someone with a more developed prefrontal cortex? Incidentally, Aaron and Kaylor have an altercation where Aaron breaks the fourth wall by addressing the audience directly, asserting, “I assure you, I don’t block her!” He then expounds on the social hierarchy among friendship groups, based on follower count, which is intriguing and precisely the kind of insight this series should delve into. To my surprise, Beyond the Villa has caused me to reconsider Aaron’s character favorably. However, I remain open to revising (or momentarily adjusting) my opinion when presented with fresh insights.
Meanwhile, as Connor’s birthday party is attended by his followers with less than a million, JaNa, Kenny, Leah, and Miguel opt for a game of bowling instead. Remarkably, there’s no drama ensuing in the gathering. Leah suggests a dog fostering organization founded by none other than David Beckham’s daughter-in-law, who happens to be a billionaire heiress. It seems Leah is channeling her inner Kardashian quite well! JaNa expresses interest in taking on the responsibility and communication challenge of fostering a dog with Kenny, as she dreams of having four kids one day. Moreover, JaNa aims to mediate the ongoing cold war between Kaylor and Liv. If these plans don’t materialize, JaNa appears poised to become an immediate fan favorite on either ‘The Ultimatum’ or ‘The Traitors.’ Mark my words!
At the birthday celebration, Kendall and Connor tease Aaron about his lack of interaction with women since departing from the villa. They attempt to act as his wingmen, but instead, Aaron finds himself conversing with two ladies about his British sheep and plans to rescue overworked donkeys. The women react as if this behavior is more repulsive than anything Kendall or Connor might do. Frankly, I can’t make sense of it either, but then again, I don’t frequent WeHo clubs. However, I hope those ladies enjoyed plenty of free drinks and departed the party without any man connected to Connor.
Kaylor wanders about, her dress reminiscent of Scooby-Doo, while Fran Fine’s hairstyle from yesteryear sits atop her head. Neither one dares to meet the other’s gaze, as they both believe it’s the other person’s turn to initiate. A server presents a small tiramisu cake with a lit candle, Connor strikes a match, and somehow, Kaylor and Liv manage to avoid each other all evening long.
It seems as though you found it remarkable that the producers allowed the birthday event rental to go unused. You’re not alone in that sentiment. However, JaNa takes it upon herself to intervene, or more accurately, mediate the matter by inviting Kaylor to a lunch where Liv is already present. In an ideal world, JaNa would have informed both parties instead of just Liv, thus avoiding an awkward power dynamic. But we’re not in an ideal world, and I find it hard to believe that Kaylor was deceived, as we wouldn’t be hearing the end of it if that were the case.
In their conversation, Kaylor and Liv continue to debate about glamour, photography, and feeling excluded. Liv subtly mentions a past incident where her heart was broken at a club, and Kaylor didn’t reach out afterwards. Neither of them disclose the details, but on “Beyond the Villa,” this could leave viewers hanging. Later, Kaylor discusses how she finds it hard to trust people who lie, especially since she grew up with liars, a fact that Liv should be familiar with given her own experiences with such individuals in Pennsylvania. The discussion seems to border on Kaylor potentially using her therapist’s notes about her childhood trauma as evidence in a feud, which could seem exploitative in the broader narrative. It’s important to remember that both women are only 23 years old. Perhaps next week, Kaylor will find a way to resolve this issue or the storyline will continue with a “To Be Continued.
