Lady Gaga reveals why she never denied rumor she’s trans in new Netflix series

As a gamer with a deep appreciation for artists who use their platform to advocate for marginalized communities, I admire Lady Gaga‘s stance on the matter of transgender rights. Her decision not to address the rumors about her being transgender was a powerful statement that spoke volumes about her character and empathy towards those who are often subjected to such harmful misinformation.

Lady Gaga openly shared the emotional explanation behind her decision not to address speculations about her identity as a transgender woman during the early stages of her career.

During an interview on the second episode of Netflix’s ‘What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates’, Lady Gaga clarified the longstanding speculation about her being transgender that arose in 2011.

Regarding her initial professional journey, the artist behind ‘Born This Way’ commented: “I crisscrossed the globe. My travels were for concerts and publicizing my albums, and in almost every conversation I had, they mentioned an altered image of mine that was circulating online…

“People have been saying that I’m a man, but I didn’t feel like I should confirm or deny the rumor because I didn’t want to be seen as a victim of such a false claim. I couldn’t help but think about young individuals who might be falsely accused and look up to public figures like myself, hoping that we wouldn’t feel embarrassed by such accusations.

Lady Gaga stated that she decided not to contest rumors about her being transgender, as she didn’t want to contribute to the stigma surrounding being trans. She felt, “What if a child facing similar accusations looks up to me and internalizes the shame attached to such a misconception?

She added: “I’ve found myself in instances where correcting a rumor wasn’t beneficial for others. Instead, I aimed to stir thoughts and cause disruption differently. I attempted to manipulate the false information to spark another disruptive idea.

In 2011, Anderson Cooper inquired during an interview on CNN if Lady Gaga had “male genitalia.” At the time, she responded: “Why should I issue a statement to clarify whether or not I have a penis? My fans aren’t interested, and neither am I.

A well-known actor from ‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ has been a long-term ally of the LGBTQ+ community, especially vocal in championing transgender rights. Recently, they had a meeting with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney and publicly denounced the mistreatment they faced.

Gaga passionately voiced her strong guardianship towards the transgender community, emphasizing their unyielding elegance and motivation as they persist through ongoing disrespect, bigotry, and physical, spoken, and emotional abuse.
