As a die-hard fan who has witnessed the dark and twisted journey of Gotham through countless Batman iterations, I must admit, my excitement for Joker 2: Folie à Deux is palpable. The thought of seeing the Clown Prince of Crime team up with Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent, under Todd Phillips’ vision, is tantalizing.
In Arthur’s follower’s relentless attack, there arises a doubt: Will Batman reappear in The Joker 2 to finally confront the villain? Gotham City is slowly falling apart under their pressure.
For as long as Batman has existed, the Joker has been chasing him, pulling on the threads of Bruce Wayne’s morality with pleasure. From Christopher Nolan to Matt Reeves, everyone’s had a go at putting the supervillain to screen.
Given that Joker: Folie à Deux features both Harley Quinn and Harvey Dent, it’s reasonable to anticipate a potential fresh take on the Gotham vigilante character, overseen by director Todd Phillips.
So, will Batman show up? Unfortunately, it’s not looking likely.
Is Batman in Joker 2?
In the sequel to The Joker, Batman won’t make an appearance since the story takes place while Bruce Wayne is still a child during those particular films.
People who watched Arthur’s peculiar encounter with Bruce in the initial film may recollect that the young billionaire seemed approximately 10 years old.
In other words, the idea of “Batman” hasn’t been conceived yet, because it will be several years before Bruce adopts his new crime-fighting mentality.
Although the end of Joker implies the shooting of Thomas and Martha Wayne in the iconic alley scene, it’s suggested that Batman may appear eventually, but not immediately. If he does make an appearance, it probably won’t fit into the established Batman universe as we currently know it.
To clarify, the movie “Joker: Folie à Deux” is set during a period of time when Bruce Wayne is yet to become an adult.
When is Folie à Deux set?
In the second installment of Joker, the story unfolds in the year 1983, a period of two years following the occurrences depicted in the initial film, which transpired in 1981.
In the trailer for the upcoming film, it’s mentioned that “Three years ago, the name Arthur Fleck made a powerful impact on Gotham City.
Folie à Deux unfolds as Arthur undergoes incarceration at Arkham Asylum prior to his court hearing for murder. It is during this period that supporters of Arthur’s crusade against societal norms seem to gain momentum.
Considering this fact, it’s worth noting that Bruce Wayne was not old enough to assume the role of the Dark Knight or Caped Crusader at that time, as he was still in his teenage years.
