Reports from various outlets suggest that the remaster of Dark Souls 3 is in progress, with indications that it’s well into its developmental stages. Based on leaks and announcements, it appears that the game will be released in the year 2026.
Initially, Dark Souls wasn’t immediately popular, but after its breakthrough, it left an indelible impact on the gaming world as a whole. When discussing game difficulty, it’s tough not to draw parallels with Dark Souls.
Moreover, despite the fact that the second installment in the series didn’t enjoy even a tenth of the popularity of the first, the third game managed to restore the Souls franchise to its former glory and solidified FromSoftware as one of the most adored developers within the gaming community.
According to various reports, it appears that FromSoft is choosing to align with the fanbase and bypassing a sequel for the Souls series, instead opting to enhance Dark Souls 3 with a remastered version.
Dark Souls 3 set to get 2026 remaster
Originally launched on March 24, 2016, Dark Souls 3 remains remarkably relevant even now. If they were planning to mark its 10th anniversary with an updated remaster, the timing would indeed be fitting.
According to the reliable source Kurakasis, who has leaked information from FromSoftware in the past, there’s a new, as-yet unannounced game being developed at the studio. This project is internally referred to as ‘FMC’. If the current development progress holds true, it appears that this game could potentially be released as early as 2026.
This game is designed to work across multiple platforms, which means it can’t solely be an exclusive for the Switch 2 regarding Duskbloods. The lesson from Bloodborne is that publishers usually retain their exclusivity with titles developed by FromSoft.

It’s possible, though unlikely, that this could be a brand new project from FromSoft. However, given their current focus on Duskbloods, it seems more plausible that it’s a remaster of an existing game. This aligns with the rumor of a Dark Souls 3 remaster, which was leaked in 2024.
Back in November 2024, during a live broadcast by XboxEra’s Nick Baker, it was suggested that something like this was on the horizon. However, specific details about its exact launch date were scarce at the time.
Based on the track record of these two reliable sources when it comes to predicting upcoming game releases, there’s a high likelihood that Dark Souls 3 may receive an update to bring it into the current era.
Yet, the extent to which this game is truly a remaster and if it will incorporate any fresh features since FromSoft has had a full decade to hone their development abilities remains uncertain.
