As a movie enthusiast who has grown up with Disney classics, the news about the summer of 2025 being all about ohana has filled my heart with joy and anticipation! The remake of Lilo & Stitch, a beloved animated film from my childhood, along with the long-awaited Freakier Friday sequel, is like a dream come true.
Disney is making summer 2025 all about ohana.
Two family-friendly films, namely “Lilo & Stitch” in its live-action version and the sequel to “Freaky Friday,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan, are scheduled for release during the upcoming summer season.
The movies “Lilo & Stitch” and “Freakier Friday” are set to be released in theaters on May 23, 2025, and Aug. 8, 2025, respectively. They both made a strong impression during this year’s D23 Expo, where the title of the “Freaky Friday” sequel was revealed, as well as the first glimpse of the lovable CGI Stitch.
18-year-old actress Maia Kealoha plays the role of Lilo Pelekai in the new adaptation that’s been released 23 years after the initial animated film. Similar to the original story, this version is set in Hawaii and revolves around Lilo and her older sister Nani as they encounter a mischievous blue extraterrestrial named Stitch.
As a movie fanatic, I’m thrilled to share that Sydney Agudong steps into the role of Nani in the live-action adaptation, with Chris Sanders once again lending his voice to the character we all love – Stitch! The star-studded cast also includes Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, Courtney B. Vance, and Tia Carrere, who originally voiced Nani in the original film, among others. Can’t wait to see this magical journey unfold on the big screen!
22 years have passed since I critically adored the hilarious body-swap comedy “Freaky Friday,” and now its beloved stars Curtis and Lohan are back for a long-awaited sequel! Joining them are familiar faces like Chad Michael Murray, Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky, and Rosalind Chao. This time around, we’ll see Manny Jacinto, known for his roles in “The Acolyte” and “The Good Place,” as well as Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from “Never Have I Ever,” Sophia Hammons, and Julia Butters gracing the screen alongside our original cast members. Get ready for another unforgettable comedy ride!
In this upcoming film, a continuation of the cherished 2003 movie featuring a unique multigenerational angle, we find Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) many years after they experienced an identity crisis. Now, Anna is a mother herself and is about to become a stepmother. As they tackle the various difficulties that arise when two families blend, Tess and Anna uncover the possibility that fate could repeat itself.
