As a seasoned Lord of the Rings fanatic who’s spent countless hours immersed in Middle Earth lore, I must say that the unexpected kiss between Elrond and Galadriel in Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 7 left me somewhat flabbergasted. It’s not every day you witness a smooch that could potentially shake the foundations of one of the most beloved relationships in fantasy history – or at least, it shouldn’t be!
In the seventh episode of The Rings of Power Season 2, Elrond and Galadriel share a kiss. This scene might stir controversy, even among less devoted Lord of the Rings enthusiasts who can understand why it seems unusual – and it left one of the actors taken aback.
In the most recent installment of Rings of Power, Adar escorts Elrond to his encampment for negotiations: if Elrond hands over an Elven ring, Adar will employ it against Sauron and then lead the Orcs into Mordor, all in return for saving Galadriel’s life.
As Elrond denies my request, Adar threatens to present Galadriel’s head on a spike during our imminent battle. Overwhelmed, I ask for a farewell moment with her, and she encourages me to prevail. In the midst of the Orcs being diverted by our passionate goodbye, I discreetly hand her the key to her restraints.
As I’m playing this game, the melodious music stirs up quite the romantic vibe, making my heart flutter like nothing else. Yet, there’s one big thing that might make fans of The Lord of the Rings tilt their heads in surprise.
It is foreseen that Elrond will wed Celebrimbor, Galadriel’s daughter, who would have been born by then, according to the narrative (but for the sake of simplicity, we won’t delve too deeply into the timeline).
During a chat with TopMob, actor Robert Aramayo, who portrays Elrond in the show, confessed that he was taken aback upon discovering the kiss scene when he first read it in the script.
“It shocked me, yeah, when I first read it. I was not expecting it at all,” he said.
However, I believe this action by Elrond is quite strategic, as it’s certainly not what one typically anticipates him to do within that tent.
He believes this will be his final encounter with Galadriel, as he holds deep affection for her. The situation is quite emotional, making it a complex moment, but to put it simply, it took me by surprise.
Just a heads up, The Rings of Power series isn’t adapted from The Silmarillion. Instead, it falls under the rights Amazon holds for Tolkien’s works: The Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hobbit, and the appendices.
As a passionate gamer diving into the world of “The Rings of Power”, I’ve noticed that the storytellers have taken some creative liberties and condensed the timeline. This makes pinpointing exactly when the series is set a bit tricky. Additionally, it seems that certain characters, like Galadriel’s husband Celeborn, have been temporarily left out from the narrative for now.
In the context she understands, Celeborn is of great significance. As far as Galadriel knows, although it’s not confirmed, Celeborn might still be alive, and they have yet to produce offspring together.
