In simple terms, The Elder Scrolls Legends consistently ranked among our top non-Hearthstone card games, but unfortunately didn’t achieve the success Bethesda had hoped for. Development ceased in 2019, and by 2024, it was permanently closed and can no longer be played.
As an ardent fan, I can’t help but echo the spirit of Warhammer Online and Star Wars Galaxies enthusiasts. Just like them, we, the Elder Scrolls Legends community, have chosen not to let our beloved game rest in peace. Under the banner “The Elder Scrolls Legends Reborn,” we’ve embarked on a mission to create a server emulator that will breathe new life into the singleplayer campaigns and, as the latest update video suggests, enable us to engage in multiplayer matches once more.
The Reborn project isn’t fully prepared for public use just now. At present, the computer randomly selects cards, players can’t customize their decks, and not all cards are available yet. Despite these incomplete features, it’s truly remarkable progress. The card mechanics function properly, and even the spectacular animations for cards such as Odahviing’s fire are operational. I’m eagerly anticipating its complete launch.
Although The Elder Scrolls Legends: Reborn isn’t ready for play yet, fear not, there is another option available. The TESL Browser Project aims to make The Elder Scrolls Legends playable within a browser. In its latest alpha stage (0.4), you can already test it out solo at tesl.online.
Although it may not be as visually striking as the original game, its functionality alone makes it quite satisfying. It even reproduces the creature sound effects when they’re summoned, allowing you to hear the Skilled Blacksmith exclaim, “It seems it’s time for the muscle!” as he appears on the board.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the laid-back approach Bethesda has shown towards the Skyblivion project extends to the team working on reviving Legends. Here’s hoping for a similar relaxed atmosphere!
