Destiny 2 gets rid of huge problem in major Dungeon overhaul

As a dedicated Destiny 2 player with countless hours spent traversing the cosmos, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and trepidation as we approach the 2025 content update. The news of the reworked content model, particularly the elimination of separate Dungeon Keys for future expansions like Behemoth, has me both excited and relieved.

2025 marks the beginning of Destiny 2’s revamped content approach, introducing a significant alteration in the way players can gain access to forthcoming Dungeons.

2025 marks the beginning of Destiny 2’s next chapter, known as “Frontiers”. Bungie has already announced that this phase will include two expansions – “Codename: Apollo”, which is set to debut in summertime, and “Codename: Behemoth”, scheduled for the winter season.

Back in September 2024, the studio shared some key updates about the significant modifications that would come with the content revamp they were planning.

According to the article, players who venture into the initial expansion of each year will encounter a fresh raid. On the other hand, the second expansion is set to unveil a completely new dungeon and an enhanced system for rewards.

Since the Dungeon is set to debut with the Behemoth expansion, Bungie has mentioned that there will be no more separate keys required for entering the Dungeon.

Regarding the enlarged reward system, the team intends to incorporate complete weapon and armor collections that are comparable to raid levels.

In contrast to the traditional method of acquiring Dungeon access in Destiny 2, players have had various options such as buying expansion’s Deluxe Editions or individually purchasing keys from the Eververse Store. However, this new approach represents a significant shift in how we access dungeons.

The Final Shape Dungeon Key, for example, grants access to Dungeons in Episodes Revenant and Heresy.

Players with the Behemoth expansion for Destiny 2 can look forward to accessing the 2025 Dungeon starting from now, which should bring relief to those who have been debating the value of such content purchases. However, whether these changes will significantly improve the fortunes of this struggling shooter game remains uncertain.

In July 2024, only a few months after reducing its workforce significantly, Bungie announced it was letting go of over 200 employees. This news broke out mere weeks following the release of Destiny 2: The Final Form, an expansion that signaled a new era for content updates in this seven-year-old game.
