As a devoted fan of The Karate Kid franchise, I was deeply moved by the heartfelt tribute to Chad McQueen in Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2. His portrayal of Dutch, the blonde-haired bully, left an indelible mark on me and countless other fans. It’s hard to believe that this charismatic actor, whose father was a Hollywood legend, has now joined the ranks of the stars he admired.
In the second half of Cobra Kai Season 6, a tribute is paid to Chad McQueen prior to the closing credits. Here’s an explanation of how this homage ties into The Karate Kid:
You can now watch Cobra Kai Season 6 Part 2, which is the midpoint of the series’ final season, on Netflix.
In Episode 1, we saw the pupils from Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai dojos confronting each other at the Sekai Taiki competition held in Barcelona, challenging skilled young karate practitioners from across the globe.
Before concluding, there was a blend of romantic moments, disagreements, and squabbles, culminating in a fight on the mat. As the final credits began to play, they didn’t forget to include a heartfelt tribute: “Chad McQueen – 1960-2024 – Cobra Kai Lives On.
Cobra Kai Chad McQueen dedication explained
Chad McQueen, a renowned actor and racer, passed away recently, primarily recognized for playing the character ‘Dutch’ in the initial Karate Kid film.
Born on the 20th of December, 1960, Chadwick Steven McQueen found himself immersed in the world of acting, seeing as his father, Steve McQueen, was a renowned actor and icon in Hollywood.
After making short appearances in the films “Skateboard” and “Hadley’s Rebellion”, McQueen took on the role of the bleach-blond antagonist Dutch in the movie “The Karate Kid”.
Among John Kreese’s malevolent Cobra Kai dojo members, Dutch was part of a group who caused Daniel LaRusso (played by Ralph Macchio) considerable distress. This group’s torment ended when their leader, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka), lost to LaRusso in the All-Valley Karate Championship, marking the end of the movie.
Prior to retiring from acting, McQueen had roles in direct-to-DVD action films such as Martial Law, Death Ring, and Red Line. His passion for racing led him to pursue this activity full-time instead.
Regrettably, Chad McQueen passed away yesterday, leaving behind a rich tapestry of memories from our time working together on “The Karate Kid”. He was an extraordinary individual who stood out from the crowd and never failed to make me smile. Every day, we would drive to set in a caravan, with him in his gleaming silver Porsche, setting the pace for our journey.

He drove in the Sports Car Club of America, winning multiple events before a crash at Daytona cut that career short. But he remained in the sport, eventually launching McQueen Racing to develop high-speed custom cars and motorcycles.
Due to an injury and job obligations, he was unable to join the other members of the villainous group in Cobra Kai, and unfortunately, McQueen passed away on September 11, 2024, from organ failure, at his residence in Palm Desert.
Yesterday, we sadly said goodbye to the legendary Chad McQueen. While working together on The Karate Kid, I shared countless memorable moments with him. He truly was unique. (Billy Zabka’s tweet, paraphrased)
“He marched to the beat of his own drum and always made me laugh. We would caravan to set everyday, him in his silver Porsche, music blasting, and me in my badass Honda Accord. He was the baddest of the OG Cobra’s in the most fun and entertaining way.”
