Classic Sega Arcade Game Lands Director For A New Movie

As a lifelong gamer and action movie enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement for the upcoming Shinobi movie! With Sam Hargrave, who has proven his knack for high-octane action sequences in Extraction, at the helm, this film promises to be a visually stunning and adrenaline-pumping spectacle.

In December, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 returns our beloved character to the big screen, but that isn’t the only game Sega is adapting for cinema. Another of their classic arcade games, Shinobi, is also making its way to theaters, under development at Universal Pictures. Remarkably, a director has already been appointed for this project.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Hargrave has been chosen as the director for the upcoming movie titled “Shinobi”. Hargrave is a well-known former stuntman and coordinator who previously directed both Netflix’s Extraction films, starring Chris Hemsworth. Additionally, he will also be directing Extraction 3 for the streaming platform. The script for Shinobi is being penned by Ken Kobayashi.

1987 saw the debut of Shinobi, a game that dropped players into the role of Joe Musashi, a valiant Ninja compelled to avenge his clan against Zeed, a dangerous ninja crime organization. Originally derived from the Japanese term for ninja, Shinobi went on to inspire over 13 sequels across arcades and home gaming systems. The latest addition to this series was Shinobi 3D, released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011.

Last December, during The Game Awards, it was announced that a fresh Shinobi game is in the works. This upcoming title promises to evoke nostalgia with its classic 2D design, but specifics regarding its release date remain undisclosed as of now.
