Chernobylite 2 World Will Be 20 Times Larger and 2-3 Times Longer Than the Original. Devs Target Fall 2025 for Post-Apocalyptic Action RPG

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I must say I am genuinely excited about the upcoming release of Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone. Having played and enjoyed the original, I can only imagine what the developers have in store for us with a bigger budget, Unreal Engine 5, and a 20 times larger open world.


As a thrilled fan, I’m excitedly recapping the latest updates on Chernobylite 2: Exclusion Zone. Just a few weeks back, we were treated to our first official trailer, brimming with gameplay footage. More recently, the co-founder of The Farm 51, Maciej Pazdur, graced us with an insightful interview at Wccftech, offering tantalizing glimpses into the making of this anticipated project.

Changes compared to the first game

In the development of Chernobylite 2, the team aims to create a game that more closely aligns with their original vision. Unlike the first part, which was constrained by budgetary limitations and technology, this sequel is built on a strong foundation and a well-established world, and will be fueled by the advanced Unreal Engine 5.

As a gamer, I’d put it this way: “You know that secret in-house nickname we had? We dubbed the second game ‘ChernobylFull.’ It was our not-so-subtle hint at our ambition to craft an immersive, premium gaming experience, one that we envisioned from the ground up.

It’s likely that people won’t be taken aback by the news that the sequel will be a significantly expanded version. As Pazdur mentions, it boasts a 20 times larger open world brimming with additional characters, weapons, gadgets, mechanics, and enemies. Consequently, finishing the entire game could take about 2-3 times longer than the original.

As a gamer, I’m excited to explore the game world where different factions hold power over distinct zones. Interacting with their representatives could unlock unique abilities for me. It seems that the attribute and skill systems will resemble those found in traditional Role-Playing Games (RPGs), which I find quite intriguing!

TPP view

As suggested by Pazdur, the primary shift is expected to be a transition towards the Third-Person Perspective (TPP) becoming the standard viewpoint for the game. This adjustment aims to give the game an RPG feel while differentiating it from series like Metro and STALKER. Moreover, hand-to-hand combat will see expansion, in line with this new approach. However, during exploration, the First-Person Perspective (FPP) mode can still be opted for when desired. It’s important to mention that this change might not sit well with some players who prefer the current perspective.

We apologize for any inconvenience, as we’ve tested the [TPP view] with both existing and new players. Feedback indicates that the new system performs significantly better. Unfortunately, the first-person perspective shooting in Chernobylite wasn’t impressive, a fact we were aware of. However, we believe the third-person perspective combat functions more effectively within our game.

Cooperation mode

It’s common knowledge that Chernobylite 2 will provide a multiplayer mode, allowing us to enjoy the game in tandem with our friends. Pazdur mentioned, however, that there will be unique bosses and locations specifically designed for tough challenges, making it wiser to tackle them with companions rather than alone.

“I’d rather not give away all the secrets, but let me hint at something: It can be beneficial to take on certain bosses with friends by your side. There are also unique areas to explore. I haven’t shown you everything just yet, but there are dungeons and massive towers as well.

Release date

Towards the close of the interview, Pazdur indicated that we can anticipate the arrival of Chernobylite 2 within the next year, with an estimated release date possibly falling in August or September. Yet, it’s essential to note that this is not a firm deadline as numerous variables are at play. The developer mentioned potential scenarios such as an early access debut or a subsequent launch on consoles (PS5, Xbox Series X/S), following the PC premiere. However, he expressed a preference to bypass these options.
