As a seasoned movie critic who has witnessed the power of entertainment in bringing people together during trying times, I am deeply moved by this noble initiative from Paramount Global and United Way Worldwide. Having lived through the aftermath of several natural disasters, I can attest to the vital role such collaborative efforts play in providing aid, hope, and resilience to those affected.
Paramount Global is collaborating with United Way Worldwide to produce a one-hour charity special aimed at assisting those affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, with damages approximated to be around $50 billion.
On November 2nd, between 8-9 p.m., Eastern/Pacific Time, “United Way’s Hurricane Relief Telecast” will be aired on CBS, CMT, and live-streamed on Paramount+ with Showtime. This event was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee from October 27th to the 28th. The funds raised during this special program will contribute towards hurricane relief efforts and long-term recovery projects, ultimately assisting individuals and families across the southeastern United States.
Paramount Global and its brands are teaming up with United Way Worldwide for the ‘United Way Benefit for Hurricane Relief,’ aiming to assist Americans affected by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. According to Melissa C. Potter, executive director of Content for Change at Paramount Global and a board member of United Way Worldwide, this collaboration is crucial because she has witnessed United Way’s ability to mobilize local leaders, partners from various sectors, and communities during crisis periods. The funds raised from this event will be instrumental in helping those affected by the hurricanes rebuild their lives.
Featured artists: Brittney Spencer, Chris Janson, Clay Aiken, Jonathan McReynolds, Tyler Hubbard; they’ll be joined by special messages and appearances from the Backstreet Boys, Billy Bob Thornton, Billy Burke, Blake Shelton, Cedric The Entertainer, Cody Alan, Jackson Dean, Kelsea Ballerini, Max Thieriot, Nate Burleson, Stephen Colbert, Taye Diggs, Zac Brown Band, as well as real-life heroes Mark Starling and Tank Spencer, among others.
During tough times, United Way harnesses the compassionate strength of local communities to aid those in distress, stated Angela F. Williams, UWW’s president and CEO. The ‘United Way Benefit for Hurricane Relief’ serves as a means to bring people together, offering assistance to the victims of the destructive hurricanes. By joining forces, we can establish long-term and enduring resilience for individuals, families, and communities.
The special was developed by Byron V. Garrett, the chief revenue officer at United Way Worldwide, and Melissa C. Potter, the executive director of Content for Change at Paramount Global. It is produced jointly by Black & Bespoke (with Myiea Coy as executive producer), 5X Media (executive producers Gil Goldschein and Maria Pepin), Digital Cinema Collective (with Aaron Cooke as executive producer), and Berman Productions (Al Berman as executive producer).
According to Byron V. Garrett, the chief revenue officer at UWW, United Way has a rich tradition of offering help and giving hope to people before, during, and after emergencies,” said Mr. Garrett. “Being firmly established in the communities we serve, United Way can rely on strong connections and trust to channel resources where they are most crucial.
