- Nigeria wants the Binance executive who custody and fled to Kenya to be extradited.
- Local media outlets have reported that Nigerian government officials are expecting Nadeem Anjarwalla to be returned to the country within the week.
According to various news sources, Nadee Anjarwalla, a Binance executive, has been found in Kenya after previously being held in Nigerian custody. Extradition proceedings are now underway against him.
Last week, Nigerian authorities discovered that Anjarwalla was in Kenya and are currently collaborating with their Kenyan counterparts to arrange for his return to Nigeria, according to Daily Post’s government sources. The Punch reported on Monday, quoting unnamed sources within the government, that Anjarwalla may be brought back to Nigeria as early as this week through INTERPOL’s assistance.
CoinDesk has reached out to INTERPOL, Kenya’s foreign ministry and Nigeria’s police force for comment.
In February, Nigerian authorities took Anjarwalla and Binance’s other executive, Tigran Gambaryan, into custody. They were charged with allegedly interfering with the national currency’s value, avoiding taxes, and facilitating money laundering on behalf of Binance.
Anjarwalla, a citizen of both Britain and Kenya, is said to have left the country in March with a hidden Kenyan passport. Gambaryan, who remains in Nigeria, entered not guilty pleas to money laundering accusations during a court hearing in April.
