The production for a highly anticipated multi-segment documentary about Barbra Streisand has commenced, with Frank Marshall serving as director and Alex Gibney as producer. This announcement was made by Sony Music Vision on Thursday. They are working in collaboration with Columbia Records, Jigsaw Productions, and the Kennedy/Marshall Company to create this documentary.

The documentary will provide a detailed and intimate examination of every aspect of the renowned individual who is known for multiple roles, according to producers. They also emphasized that it will feature exclusive content from the private archives of the singer, actor, and director, including numerous unseen videos, photos, audio recordings, and personal mementos dating back to her successful career.

Barbara Streisand expressed in a statement, “For quite some time now, I’ve been pondering on the perfect method for sharing the rich trove of content I’ve securely kept in my vault. These films, pictures, and music originals – many of which have yet to be experienced by the public – carry some of my most precious memories. I’m thrilled that producer Alex Gibney and director Frank Marshall have consented to embark on this adventure with me. Kudos to Tom Mackay, head of Sony Music’s Premium Content team, for his faith in the project. And a special thank you to Sony Music Chairman Rob Stringer, who has consistently backed numerous creative projects of mine.

Marshall expressed his excitement about collaborating with Alex once more, and the chance to portray Barbra’s captivating life tale on screen. We’ve been granted unparalleled access to archival footage from her decades-long, groundbreaking career, as well as a unique glimpse into the trailblazing work she continues today. Unveiling these extraordinary instances reveals why she remains an iconic figure admired by audiences worldwide, spanning multiple generations.

For years, there’s been discussion about creating the definitive documentary on Barbra Streisand, mentioned Gibney. After some fruitful discussions and thorough investigation, we’re now proceeding with Frank Marshall in charge. I’m thrilled to be involved in this project that will highlight Barbra, an iconic singer, talented actor, director, and political advocate who continues to inspire us. Oh, and by the way, she’s a captivating storyteller with a wit that’s as sharp as a tack!

This documentary is a joint effort between Jigsaw Productions and Kennedy/Marshall Company. Alex Gibney, Frank Marshall, Aly Parker, Michele Farinola, Tom Mackay, and Jay Landers are among its producers. Sony Music Vision, in collaboration with Columbia Records, the artist’s label since 1962, will be responsible for showcasing and distributing this film.

Global sales for the doc will be led by Krista Wegener of Sony Music Vision.

The project is initiated following Barbra Streisand’s exploration of her personal archives for the creation of her long-awaited, extensive memoir titled “My Name Is Barbra,” which received positive feedback and was published by Viking in November 2023.

In April, Streisand unveiled a fresh track titled “Love Will Survive,” which served as the Emmy-worthy ending theme for “The Tattooist of Auschwitz.” It marked her debut in recording an original piece for a television program.
