ABC Orders Tim Allen & Kat Dennings Comedy ‘Shifting Gears’ to Series, Writers Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully Depart

As a devoted fan of Tim Allen’s illustrious career, I am absolutely thrilled to hear that he is returning to ABC with a new multi-camera comedy, “Shifting Gears,” alongside the talented Kat Dennings. Although the show has undergone some changes in its production team and cast, the potential for a heartwarming and entertaining series remains high.

ABC has given approval for the production of the multi-camera sitcom “Shifting Gears,” featuring Tim Allen and Kat Dennings, according to our sources.

Initially slated to debut as a pilot on ABC in March, the show has since undergone some significant alterations, both on-screen and off. Originally tapped as writers and executive producers for “Shifting Gears,” Mike Scully and Julie Thacker Scully have since stepped down from their roles. They will be acknowledged as executive producers during the pilot episode. The hunt is now underway to find a new person in charge of the series.

Froy Gutierrez was initially chosen to play Nick in the pilot episode, but the producers have decided to replace him with another actor for the series version.

In simpler terms, the show’s tagline describes Allen as the single father and proprietor of a vintage car repair business. When his former daughter and her adolescent children become his new housemates, he embarks on an even more challenging journey of personal growth and reconciliation.

Additionally, the talented actors Daryl “Chill” Mitchell portrays Stitch, Maxwell Simkins embodies Carter, and Barrett Margolis takes on the role of Georgia in this production.

Allen, alongside Marty Adelstein, Becky Clements, Richard Baker, Rick Messina, and John Pasquin, holds the role of an executive producer in this series. Mentioned earlier are Scully and Thacker Scully, who also serve as executive producers for the pilot episode. Dennings takes on the producer role. The studio behind this production is 20th Television.

Allen initially gained fame by playing a significant role in the multi-camera sitcom “Home Improvement” on ABC and Disney from 1991 to 1999. Subsequently, he reappeared on the same network with the comedy series “Last Man Standing,” which ran for six seasons at ABC and an additional three seasons on Fox.

Currently, ABC has only a few scripted comedies in its lineup. The popular single-camera show “Abbott Elementary” will return for its fourth season on October 9, and the seventh and last season of “The Conners” is predicted to premiere during midseason.
