As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I, myself, am amazed by China’s groundbreaking creation – the world’s first humanoid robot! This marvel can independently swap its batteries, demonstrating a level of autonomy that leaves me in awe. No more need for external help; this robot takes care of itself!
In the year 2025, China saw significant strides in the field of robotics, from football matches played by robots to graduation ceremonies powered by AI. Robots, resembling humans, have been put to the test in various public, industrial, and educational environments, with many capturing public attention and gaining popularity.
Recently, China has made a significant stride in robot technology with an innovative development that could reshape the long-term functioning of robots. Specifically, on July 18, 2025, UBTech Robotics based in Shenzhen introduced the Walker S2 – the world’s first humanoid robot capable of swapping its own battery.
This robot can change its own battery
On July 18, 2025, the Shenzhen-based company UBTech Robotics unveiled their robot, Walker S2. As reported by the South China Morning Post, during a demonstration, the robot was observed walking to its charging station, removing its drained battery pack, and replacing it with a new one – all these actions were done autonomously and took less than three minutes.
The Walker S2 operates uninterruptedly, avoiding feelings of drowsiness, thanks to its unique “hot-swapping” dual-battery system. (Imagine if we humans could recharge ourselves like this, without the need for excessive caffeine from coffee or energy drinks.)
It’s anticipated that the Walker S2 could do away with the necessity of manual charging, thereby minimizing idle periods in industrial environments. This development is truly thrilling and aligns with other artificial intelligence initiatives happening throughout Asia.
In Tokyo, Lawson, a prominent Japanese convenience store chain, has unveiled its inaugural AI-integrated store, seamlessly combining robotics and advanced monitoring systems. This innovative setup allows for the analysis of customer habits, product suggestions, culinary aid, and automated restocking.
Perhaps it’s not far off when human-like robots, who don’t require rest, will be working alongside us in factories, warehouses, and public areas.
