Gripping Indie Thriller ‘Plight’ Secures Worldwide Distribution Ahead of June Release

Independent studio, Indie Rights, has obtained global distribution rights for the movie “Plight,” a gripping indie-thriller that marks the directorial, writing, and producing debut of MJ Alhabeeb Jr. The film is set to hit cinemas and digital platforms in June this year.

Nestled within the tough core of Braddock, Pennsylvania, famously known as Steeltown, U.S.A., “Plight” unfolds the story of a sorrowful father and a newly arrived Ukrainian resident who form an unforeseen partnership in their quest for justice following a devastating hit-and-run accident that disrupts their lives.

I had the pleasure of witnessing a film that graced the stage as the Showcase Selection at the Julien Dubuque International Film Festival and later triumphantly claimed the title of Best Picture at four more prestigious events. Moreover, I was thrilled to see Alhabeeb Jr.’s exceptional directing skills recognized as he was bestowed with the esteemed title of Best Director at the Orlando Film Festival.

Alhabeeb Jr. expresses that ‘Plight’ resonates deeply with him as it delves into themes he cares about profoundly – the strength of family bonds and the extraordinary efforts we make to safeguard and pay tribute to our cherished ones. He is captivated by narratives that push the boundaries of our ethical standards, particularly when presented with difficult decisions.

The agreement for this project was finalized between Indie Rights CEO, Linda Nelson, and MJ Alhabeeb Jr., representing Impavid Entertainment. Linda Nelson expressed that “Plight” is a potent and relevant movie. She added that they feel honored to make it accessible to viewers worldwide.

Alhabeeb Jr. expressed his joy about collaborating with Indie Rights. He praised Linda and her team’s exceptional past achievements and shared his anticipation for the future.

In her first acting role, Ada Pasternak appears. Recognized for her career as a violinist and singer-songwriter, Pasternak has amassed more than 15 million streams with her hit song “Perfectly Imperfect.” She shares the screen with Matthew J. Plumb, who is famously recognized as the voice of the Premier League on NBC.

The movie is made by Alhabeeb Jr. and Heather G. Webb, with Steve Straka (“Growing Up Smith”) and Reema Alhabeeb serving as executive producers. Noted cinematographer Wedigo von Schultzendorff, known for “Igby Goes Down”, takes on the role of director of photography. Emmy-winning editor Justin Lewis is also part of the creative crew.
