Assassin's Creed Shadows Will "Dramatically" Alter How It Plays Based On Your Character And Weapons

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say I am genuinely excited about Assassin’s Creed Shadows. The prospect of exploring feudal Japan and wielding traditional Japanese weapons is tantalizing, to say the least.

In early 2023, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows will transport players into the heart of feudal Japan. As you can imagine, swords and knives will play a significant role in the armory of the game’s two main characters, Naoe and Yasuke. But don’t be fooled; these characters won’t rely solely on their primary weapons to inflict lethal damage.

As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t contain my excitement after diving into Ubisoft’s detailed rundown of the combat system in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. This game promises an unprecedented level of customization as my choice of weapons and characters will significantly shape the battle dynamics.

Yasuke the samurai possesses a more extensive collection of tools at his disposal, such as a long katana, a naginata – a weapon resembling a staff with a blade attached, a kanabo – a war club adorned with spikes, a yumi bow, and a teppo flint rifle. In contrast to Naoe, Yasuke has the ability to swiftly transition between weapons during battle sequences, unleashing powerful combinations of attacks.

In a straightforward manner: Yasuke excels in direct confrontations due to his powerful weapons and strength, while Naoe is best for covert operations or stealthy assassinations thanks to her swiftness and ability to hide. Both characters possess light and heavy attacks, as well as the capacity to power up their strikes, referred to as posture attacks within the game. Defense plays a significant role in combat, with both Yasuke and Naoe having techniques that can weaken an opponent’s defense, making them susceptible to a strategic counterattack.

Ubisoft also listed some of the most common enemies in the game:

  • Outlaws
  • Ashigaru soldiers
  • Ronin
  • Samurai
  • Samurai Daisho
  • Guardians

Every one of those adversaries possesses unique strengths and vulnerabilities, making some more challenging to overcome compared to others. It appears from your records that the Samurai Daisho are particularly formidable foes within this game, yet the compensation for vanquishing them seems promising.

As a dedicated fan, I was looking forward to diving back into the world of Assassin’s Creed with Shadows, but it looks like we’ll have to wait until Valentine’s Day 2025 now, as it got delayed this fall. Excitingly, it seems the storyline in modern times is about to take a fresh turn!
