After Going Free To Play, Square Enix Is Ending Seasonal Updates For Foamstars

As a seasoned gamer with decades of gaming experience under my belt, I must admit that the news about Foamstars reaching its end has left me a tad melancholic. The game, much like a beloved pet or an old friend, has been a regular fixture in my gaming rotation since its debut. The Splatoon-esque shooter, with its vibrant colors and engaging gameplay, quickly became one of my go-to titles, especially after the switch to free-to-play.

Square Enix has shared that Foamstars won’t get any more seasons beyond the one ending on January 17, 2025. But fear not! The final update will introduce a host of fresh gaming elements to wrap up the experience.

The update will allow players to customize shots of each other and add new enhancements like Prism Gems. There will also be series of in-game events named after each character called Foamstars Cup.

It’s good news! The game’s servers will continue running for a while, and they’ll bring back the old season passes. This means players have the flexibility to choose which season pass they want to progress with, allowing them to obtain related items whenever they desire.

Beginning on December 13th and concluding on January 17th, the final season of Foamstars, called “Party Goes On,” will be broadcast. This season introduces character skins based on Nier: Automata, with Soa adopting 2B’s costume and Agito donning 9S’s. Foamstars is a game similar to Splatoon that was initially available only for PlayStation consoles.

Initially launched in February, the game Foamstars was offered for free to PlayStation Plus members for an entire month. After this period, the game became available for purchase at $30. But, around October, Square Enix revealed that they had transitioned the game into a free-to-play model.
