As a seasoned movie buff and lifelong student of American politics, I find myself deeply troubled by the prospect of Donald Trump returning to the White House. The exhaustion that Bill Maher and many others in the media are feeling is not only understandable but also palpable.
If Donald Trump resumes his previous position, it may not be beneficial to keep your current job, according to Bill Maher’s suggestion in a recent episode of his “Club Random” podcast with Jane Fonda. During their conversation, Maher voiced his fatigue at the thought of dealing with Trump’s administration for another four years, implying that it might be tiring and less rewarding compared to other job prospects.
Maher expressed to Fonda that he might be considering stepping down. He’s tired of doing more… He took on Trump before many others did. He labeled him a fraudulent businessman before others, and he predicted Trump wouldn’t concede the election. He has already said and seen enough about this matter.
“Well then how come he’s so hostile to Jimmy Kimmel and not to you?” Fonda interrupted.
Each week, I find myself on the receiving end of his hostile tweets. Every seven days, it seems, he unwittingly catches my show and responds with a familiar jab: “Low ratings loser!” Frankly, I’ve grown tired of it. My program is about politics – it’s the only thing there is. And as predictably as the news cycle, he manages to command headlines just as he always does.
As a movie buff myself, I can’t help but share my thoughts on a recent comment I made about Bill Maher back in September. On my social media platform, Truth Social, I wrote that when I occasionally tune into his show, I’m struck by the forced laughter that echoes through it. It sounds almost mechanical, like a cheap ‘Laugh Machine,’ and it’s as grating as he is, always chuckling regardless of what’s being said.
It’s unclear if Maher is genuinely considering leaving “Real Time” because of Trump’s upcoming presidency, but the show has reportedly been extended through 2026. Warner Bros. Discovery and HBO renewed “Real Time” for two more seasons as recently as March.
For another two years, I’ll be in my ideal career, on the very network many aspire to work on – that sounds like an obvious choice, doesn’t it?” Maher stated at the time. Maher has been hosting “Real Time” on HBO since 2003 and has produced 12 comedy specials for the same network. The show was last renewed in 2021 with a two-season guarantee.
