As a longtime admirer of Kelly Macdonald‘s exceptional acting prowess, I am absolutely thrilled to see her joining the cast of HBO’s Green Lantern series! Her diverse roles across television and film, from Boardwalk Empire to No Country for Old Men, have proven her versatility and depth as an actress.

McDonald becomes part of the main cast alongside Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre in the show called “Lanterns”. As per the official synopsis, this series centers around “newcomer John Stewart (Pierre) and veteran Hal Jordan (Chandler), both space cops who get embroiled in a sinister, homegrown mystery while probing a murder in the heart of America.
McDonald takes on the role of Sheriff Kerry, portrayed as a practical, family-oriented woman who strongly bonds with her local community. Her tenacity, molded by a challenging past that has strengthened her determination, provides her with stability when long-buried town secrets start to unravel.
McDonald is coming back to HBO, having previously appeared in the historical crime drama “Boardwalk Empire” on their premium channel. In 2011, she received an Emmy nomination for this series. Additionally, McDonald won an Emmy in 2006 for the TV movie “The Girl in the Cafe.” Some of her other TV appearances include “Giri/Haji,” “The Victim,” and “Black Mirror.” In film, she is recognized for roles in movies like “No Country for Old Men,” “Gosford Park,” and “Brave.
She is repped by CAA and Independent Talent Group.
The series, titled “Green Lantern,” is co-produced by HBO, Warner Bros. Television, DC Studios, and DC Comics. It’s adapted from the popular Green Lantern comic books. In June, it was commissioned for eight episodes on HBO. Initially planned as a Max original, it was moved to HBO due to a recent content distribution strategy change.
The screenplay for “Lanterns” was penned collectively by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. Each of these individuals takes on the role of executive producer, with James Hawes not only holding this position but also directing the initial two episodes.
