As a seasoned movie enthusiast who has seen more cop dramas than I can count on one hand, I must say that “On Call” piques my interest. With Dick Wolf, the mastermind behind the iconic “Law & Order” franchise, stepping into the realm of streaming, this series promises to deliver a gritty and engaging narrative.
“Amazon Prime Video unveiled the initial glimpse of ‘On Call’, a thirty-minute cop drama, which is Dick Wolf’s inaugural scripted series for streaming platforms.
This show features Troian Bellisario and Brandon Larracuente, alongside Eriq La Salle, Lori Loughlin, and Rich Ting. The first season consisting of eight episodes will debut on January 9, 2025.
As stated in the official summary, this series focuses on a pairing of a new officer (Larracuente) and an experienced one (Bellisario), who work together in Long Beach, California. By using a blend of bodycam, dashcam, and personal phone recordings, it aims to achieve a realistic, documentary-style feel, delving into the ethical complexities of upholding and safeguarding their community.
Traci Harmon, a character portrayed by Bellisario, is depicted as a tough and protective veteran police officer. She’s navigating her role within the department while mentoring the upcoming generation of officers. On the other hand, Larracuente embodies Alex Diaz, a new recruit who is ambitious but also must maintain his optimistic perspective in light of the hurdles he encounters in the current environment.

Originally commissioned for series in 2021 on IMDb TV (now known as Amazon Freevee), “On Call” was subsequently moved to Prime Video, like many other shows on the platform.
The show ‘On Call’ was developed by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf. They both take up the roles of executive producers, joined by Dick Wolf, LaSalle, and Peter Jankowski. Notably, LaSalle directed several episodes beyond his on-screen character, while also playing a role in front of the camera. The production of this series is handled by Universal Television, Amazon MGM Studios, and Wolf Entertainment.
Wolf Entertainment has earned recognition for producing hit TV franchises such as “Law & Order,” “One Chicago” on NBC, and “FBI” on CBS. Notably, “Law & Order: Organized Crime” is shifting its fifth season to Peacock from NBC. However, “On Call” marks a significant milestone for Wolf Entertainment, being the first scripted series they’ve created exclusively for a streaming platform.
