Martin Freeman Family Feature ‘Flavia,’ About 11-Year-Old Detective, Sells Wide With Sky Taking the U.K. (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for detective dramas and a soft spot for family-friendly adventures, I must say that “Flavia” has piqued my interest like a curious cat sniffing out an unsolved mystery. With its star-studded cast, led by the captivating Molly Belle Wright and the ever-reliable Martin Freeman, this film promises to be a delightful journey through a dusty library and the dark corners of a decaying British manor house.

The upcoming movie titled “Flavia” – an exciting family journey featuring a clever young detective – has been purchased for distribution not just in Europe, but also by Sky in the United Kingdom.

The movie starring Martin Freeman from “The Hobbit” and Molly Belle Wright (“Deep Water”) as the lead character Flavia, has commenced its main filming. A sneak peek image reveals them together with Toby Jones (“Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny”) in a dusty library. The production is set to conclude in November.

Alongside Karan Gill from “The Decameron,” Annette Badland of “Ted Lasso,” and Jonathan Pryce known for his role in “Slow Horses” are part of the cast as well.

The show “Flavia” is helmed by director Bharat Nalluri, known for “Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day”, and is inspired by a series of books written by Alan Bradley. The story revolves around an 11-year-old amateur detective named Flavia de Luce, with Susan Coyne (“Daisy Jones and the Six”) handling the script adaptation.

In this tale, when Flavia stumbles upon a corpse at her dilapidated British estate and her father is implicated in the crime, she embarks on a thrilling, bold exploration to uncover hidden truths about her family’s past and confront the real killer.

The UK, Italy (BIM), Portugal (Cinemundo), Eastern Europe (M2), and the Baltics (ACME) have acquired screening rights for this film. Japan’s rights were picked up by Rakuten, while Echo Lake secured airline rights. This movie will be released in Canada through Elevation.

The main character, Protagonist Pictures, responsible for overseas distribution, will attend AFM with the movie. On the other hand, CAA Media Finance is managing domestic rights and has secured funding for the film in the U.S.

George Hamilton, Chief Creative Officer at Protagonist, expressed immense enthusiasm since filming has started. He’s thrilled to give a sneak peek into Flavia’s realm. With an outstanding cast and Bharat’s talented guidance, the first Flavia de Luce mystery story is coming to life as a delightful movie that promises enjoyment for everyone in the family.
