Chris Hemsworth in Talks For Disney’s ‘Prince Charming’ Film

As a seasoned moviegoer with a penchant for blockbusters and quirky indies alike, I must admit my excitement is piqued by the news of Chris Hemsworth potentially joining the cast of Disney’s “Prince Charming.” The Aussie heartthrob has proven his versatility time and again, from the mighty Thor to the menacing Dementus, and now, perhaps, a fairy tale prince? The thought alone is enough to make one wonder if Marvel’s Asgard and Disney’s Enchanted Forest aren’t too far apart.

Chris Hemsworth is headed to the steps of the palace.

Actor Chris Hemsworth, best known for his role as Thor, is in discussions to star as the legendary romantic figure in Disney’s future adaptation of “Prince Charming.” The specifics of the movie’s storyline remain undisclosed, and it hasn’t been decided whether it will be a live-action or animated production. Director Paul King, who brought us the “Wonka” film, will helm this project, with Simon Farnaby, Jon Croker, and King collaborating on the screenplay.

Most recently, Chris Hemsworth lent his voice to Optimus Prime in the animated science fiction film “Transformers: One,” and earlier this year, he portrayed the mad warlord Dementus in George Miller’s “Furiosa: A Mad Max Story,” alongside Anya Taylor-Joy.

He’s about to take on a leading role in Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming thriller “Crime 101,” alongside stars such as Halle Berry, Barry Keoghan, and his fellow “Avengers” actor Mark Ruffalo. The film is inspired by a short story written by Don Winslow, with Bart Layton (“American Animals,” “The Imposter”) at the helm as director. Winslow’s original narrative revolves around a string of sophisticated jewelry heists along the Pacific Coast Highway that have remained unsolved for years due to a mysterious code known as “Crime 101.” Law enforcement generally attributes these crimes to Colombian cartels, but Detective Lou Lubesnick has a hunch that it’s the work of a single individual. As the elusive jewel thief seeks his ultimate heist, Lou disregards the principles of Crime 101, leading to an exciting chase where rules are meant to be broken.

Timothee Chalamet’s portrayal of Willy Wonka under the direction of King in the movie “Wonka” proved to be a lucrative venture for Warner Bros., raking in $218 million domestically and $634 million internationally. In 2014 and 2017, King was at the helm of “Paddington” and its sequel, amassing a total worldwide gross of $615 million. However, he won’t be back for the third installment, “Paddington in Peru,” but he did lend a hand to its storyline development.

Disney had no comment on Hemsworth’s casting. The InSneider was the first to report the news.
