Banijay Iberia Sports Launches in Spain with Long-Time TV, Radio Personality Gonzalo Miró Heading the New Outfit (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for all things audiovisual, I find myself deeply intrigued by the latest move of Banijay Iberia into the realm of sports content production. The appointment of Gonzalo Miró as the Director of their new sports division, Banijay Iberia Sports, is a strategic move that promises to bring fresh perspectives and innovative storytelling to this burgeoning field.

As a movie buff, here’s my take:

At Mipcom on Monday, the newly announced team is set to create and broadcast unique sports-oriented content, encompassing “sportainment, documentaries, and digital media,” as the company detailed.

Led by Pilar Blasco, CEO of Banijay Iberia, the debut of Banijay Iberia Sport has been announced. This move comes after the unveiling of Banijay Sport last year and the recent opening of LaLiga Studios, a partnership with Spain’s premier soccer league. Banijay Iberia explains that by creating this new sports-focused division, they are further demonstrating their dedication to the realm of competitive sports.

Miró initially honed his skills in the audio-visual industry by working on several critically acclaimed short films. Once he caught the bug, he pursued filmmaking at a school in New York. Upon returning to Spain, he landed a position as a co-host on “Las mañanas de Cuatro.” Since then, he’s been featured on numerous Spanish radio and television programs such as Deportes COPE, Radio Marca, “La Roca,” “Liarla Pardo,” “Más vale tarde,” “Espeko Público” and “Celebrity Master Chef.

Regarding his new role, Miró expressed: “It’s a privilege to join Banijay Iberia, a company known for its remarkable audiovisual triumphs and at the helm of innovation and creativity. I am eagerly jumping into this stimulating endeavor with high spirits, aiming to strengthen the company’s standing as a pioneer in sports content. I believe we can draw fresh talent and lay the groundwork for more compelling, original sports narratives to be brought to life on screens.

2023 marked the beginning of Banijay Iberia’s venture into the sports sector with the establishment of LaLiga Studios. Now, in line with Banijay Entertainment’s broader global push in sports, we are reinforcing our dedication to expanding our services in this area. This expansion takes shape as Banijay Iberia Sports, a new division headed by Gonzalo Miró. We are thrilled to have him join our talented team, and we eagerly anticipate further investigating innovative methods of storytelling within the rapidly growing sports industry.
