In Rogue Waters, one effective tactic involves enhancing your vessel with modules that enhance the health and agility of your crew, particularly during challenging encounters. Additional health allows your team to endure more damage, enabling them to keep fighting even after taking multiple hits. This is especially beneficial when facing larger enemy crews, as they may outnumber you, making survivability crucial. A stronger crew with higher health points gives you more time to implement your strategies and allows for a few errors without immediately losing your key personnel early in the battle.
Not only does it offer defensive benefits, but also the capacity to traverse additional squares in combat significantly boosts your advantage. Tips for using your cannons during sea battles
Cannons are exclusively effective in naval skirmishes – these are encounters where both parties remain on their respective ships, exchanging cannon fire for three rounds. These weapons are designed to inflict damage upon the opposing cannons, cripple other ship components, and potentially decimate the enemy crew prior to a boarding action.
Struggling to do any meaningful damage during sea battles? Try these tips:
- Prioritize targeting dangerous cannons. Always target enemy cannons that look like they can deal significant damage to your crew. Taking these out early can prevent devastating hits later on.
- Carry at least two cannons that target cannons. Make sure to have at least two cannons in your arsenal that can specifically target other cannons. This will give you the edge in dismantling enemy firepower before they can hit you hard.

- Use specialized cannons for maximum impact. While the best cannons can target everything—cannons, modules, and crew—many of the more powerful cannons tend to specialize in one area. For example, Shipwrecker III can only target modules, so know what each cannon does best.
- Destroy enemy HP-boosting modules. Keep an eye out for enemy ship modules that give extra HP to their crew. Take these out as soon as possible to make the rest of the fight easier.
- Target bombers and gun users on the enemy crew. Focus on eliminating bombers and gun-wielding crew members before your team has to face them in boarding combat. Removing them early will make your crew’s hand-to-hand battles much smoother.
- Keep your Command Points in mind. Don’t waste Command Points on cannons that frequently misfire, especially those with a range starting at zero. It’s better to spend your points on reliable shots that are guaranteed to deal at least some damage.
