As a longtime gamer and dedicated follower of League of Legends, I must confess my heart goes out to 100 Thieves. The team had been riding high after their impressive performance at the LCS Summer 2024 Championship, but their journey at Worlds 2024 has been a bitter disappointment.
100 Thieves were eliminated from the League of Legends Worlds 2024 tournament following a decisive loss against PSG Talon. Their performance throughout the Play-Ins was underwhelming overall.
In a regrettable turn of events, the prominent 100T squad set a disheartening precedent, becoming the very first North American team ever to be ousted at the Worlds Play-In phase.
100 Thieves entered the competition with high anticipation following their standout performance at the LCS Summer 2024 Championship. In that tournament, they delivered an extraordinary 3-1 victory against a formidable Cloud9 squad, knocking them out in the third round.
Despite ending up third overall following a decisive defeat against eventual champions FlyQuest, their performance hinted that they could shine on the main stage. While some might have hoped for a reprise of DRX’s 2022 success, few would have anticipated an early elimination like this one.
However, they were simply outclassed.

Since the Play-Ins began on September 25, things have been uncertain for 100 Thieves. They found themselves in an elimination match against PSG after their first game of this stage of Worlds 2024 ended disastrously with a 1-2 loss against Rainbow7, despite being heavily favored going into the encounter.
After 100T’s impressive 2-0 victory against the Softbank HAWKS, a glimmer of hope was ignited within me, even if they couldn’t fully capitalize on the momentum they gained from this win.
For supporters of 100 Thieves, the fact that their team is relatively young may be the sole comforting aspect, but it’s uncertain if this current roster will stay together for the upcoming season.
After an impressive performance, PSG has moved forward to the Swiss Stage, significantly boosting their standing among other teams. Many squads are eager to steer clear of them. On October 3, they’ll square off against Hanwha Life Esports in their initial encounter.
