Only modern Simpsons game shutting down and fans are “devastated”

As a gamer with a soft spot for The Simpsons, the news of Tapped Out’s impending shutdown has left me feeling like Homer after finding out Krusty the Clown’s Fun House is closing – utterly dismayed!

After more than a decade of operation, Electronic Arts (EA) has announced it will be closing down the latest Simpsons video game, The Simpsons: Tapped Out. This news has left many fans feeling sad and disappointed.

In 2012, a free mobile game based on The Simpsons was introduced, making it the latest Simpsons-related game since Itchy and Scratchy Land in 2009. Electronic Arts (EA) announced on September 26 that this popular game will no longer be available for download on app stores starting October 31, and the servers will cease operation after January 24, 2025.

As a devoted admirer, I find it tough to express my feelings as we’re wrapping up our incredible twelve-year adventure. Hand-in-hand with our collaborators at The Simpsons™ and The Walt Disney Company, we’ve taken immense pleasure in crafting this game for you, the fans, and witnessing the unique Springfields each of you has created with love.

In “The Simpsons: Tapped Out,” you had the opportunity to create your very own version of Springfield, utilizing beloved characters and structures straight from the TV series. Electronic Arts consistently added numerous updates and fresh material over the course of the game’s extended existence.

Fans of the game shared on social media how sad they were seeing their beloved title sunsetted.

A Facebook user expressed joy at resuming the game a year or two ago, finding it was still active. They’re deeply saddened because they won’t get another chance to monitor their city after January.

From the very beginning, this game has been part of my daily routine. I haven’t invested any funds into it, yet I find myself feeling incredibly disappointed,” the Reddit user expressed in response to the recent news.

In simple terms, EA communicated that their mobile game will soon be removed from the App Store and its servers will no longer function, as indicated by a message they provided.

“We bid you adieu. Until we meet again,” the message said.

The developer announced their plan to incorporate “the maximum amount of content spanning over the last twelve years” into the game incrementally before it shuts down, accompanied by a concluding batch of fresh items that can be purchased using in-game money.

For more than a decade, the Simpsons mobile game managed to maintain a devoted fanbase. There were numerous blogs and a subreddit specifically for their enthusiastic community.
