The Last Of Us Season 2 Includes Backstory Scene That Fans Will "Eat Up"

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating post-apocalyptic landscapes and forming emotional bonds with characters in The Last of Us series, I eagerly anticipate Season 2 of HBO’s adaptation. Neil Druckmann’s tease about a scene providing “a lot of backstory” for an important character has piqued my curiosity, and I can’t wait to see how they flesh out the enigmatic past of one of the series’ intriguing figures.

Neil Druckmann of Naughty Dog hints that the second season of HBO’s The Last of Us will feature a pivotal scene offering extensive backstory for a significant character, as per his comments to Variety. As a key figure behind the first two games and the television adaptation, Druckmann believes this sequence will be appreciated by fans due to its expanded context, surpassing what could be conveyed in the game series.

Druckmann mentioned that this current season contains elements he’s very enthusiastic about, some of which were previously suggested. A specific scene stands out to him, one that he believes will be particularly appealing to fans of the game. This is because it provides a substantial amount of backstory for a crucial character, something they couldn’t effectively do within the game itself.

Druckmann only commented on that specific scene, leaving us to ponder which enigmatic character he might be hinting at from the game series. Given that The Last of Us Part II TV adaptation incorporates elements of the game’s storyline, viewers can anticipate a dose of intense drama. In Season 2, fresh characters like Abby (played by Kaitlyn Dever), Dina (Isabela Merced), and Jesse (Young Mazino) will make their appearances, along with others.

During the interview, Craig Mazin, the showrunner of The Last of Us, talked about Season 1’s highly praised episode titled “Long, Long Time.” This episode delved deeper into the relationship between Bill (played by Nick Offerman) and Frank (Murray Bartlett). Mazin explained that this love story episode effectively filled in some backstory in a significant manner. He also pointed out that it demonstrated how the show can broaden the scope of its source material.

He expressed, “In what ways can we grow this universe? What methods will we employ to construct this world? Occasionally, the most delightful moments for players come when they encounter a backstory, something hinted at in the game and now unfolds as a complete narrative – similar to Bill and Frank’s tale. It adds depth to the game. In my opinion, that’s the finest form of adaptation.

September 26 is commonly referred to as “Outbreak Day” in the storyline of The Last of Us. This day signifies when the Cordyceps brain infection started spreading rapidly among humans in the game. Traditionally, Naughty Dog has acknowledged this event, and there are rumors that a sneak peek at The Last of Us Season 2 could be unveiled today. However, we’ll have to wait and see. Meanwhile, The Last of Us Part I is currently available on PlayStation Plus, and Sony is providing a 10% discount on merchandise related to The Last of Us.

As for the game series, The Last of Us: Part III could be coming up next.
