As a long-time fan who’s spent countless hours immersed in the warm embrace of the Cooper and McCallister families, I can’t help but feel a thrill of excitement at the prospect of seeing some familiar faces pop up in the new spinoff, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage. The return of Meemaw (Annie Potts) is a given, her charm and wit never failing to brighten our screens, but the addition of her on-again, off-again beau Dale (Craig T. Nelson)? That’s an unexpected twist I didn’t see coming!
If you want spoilers for Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, you only need to look at Annie Potts’ socials… and she’s just teased the most unexpected cameo of the bunch.
Even before Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, Meemaw (Annie Potts) was a firm fan favorite in Young Sheldon. She was also integral to Season 7’s ending, so it’s pretty unsurprising that she’ll be appearing in the spinoff.
As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled to share that Meemaw, along with Mary (Zoe Perry) and Missy (Raegan Revord), is rumored to make an appearance in Episodes 1 and 2. But here’s the twist, Craig T. Nelson, who plays Meemaw’s boyfriend Dale, might also be joining the cast in a surprise cameo!
So far, it appears that Dale won’t be making any further appearances on the screen. To be honest, he doesn’t seem to play a crucial role in Young Sheldon, given his repeated break-ups and reunions with Meemaw.
Regardless, there is a logic to this action. Following the loss of her house in Season 7’s premiere episode, Meemaw had no alternative but to relocate and live with Dale during the final season. It was also Dale who rescued Meemaw from jail when his knowledge of her hidden laundromat gambling den ultimately led to its discovery.
It’s currently unclear which episodes Dale will appear in.
In her TikTok update, you’ll find members of the Georgie & Mandy spinoff series playfully interacting on set, featuring characters hailing from both the Cooper and McCallister clans. As Potts moves the camera, Dale is right there in Audrey’s kitchen.
The group is gearing up to take a photo (not unlike ones you’ll see on director Alex Reid’s Instagram feed), but there’s a blurry male figure in the background. It’s a reach… but that could well be Lance Barber, a.k.a George Cooper.
The devastating demise of George left fans of Young Sheldon worldwide in an emotional turmoil, however, it’s worth noting that Barber has reportedly been spotted on the set of the sequel.
It hasn’t been verified yet whether George will show up, but it might just be hoping too much, so keep an open mind for some unanticipated appearances by others as well.
