Assassin's Creed: Shadows Delayed to 2025. Here's New Release Date, Also on Steam

As a seasoned gamer with countless hours spent navigating digital worlds and battling virtual adversaries, I must say that Ubisoft’s decision to postpone Assassin’s Creed: Shadows to February 14, 2025, while initially disappointing, seems like a prudent move. The game industry is all about delivering a polished experience, and it’s clear that the extra time will help them achieve that goal.

Ubisoft has chosen to move the release date of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows from November 15, 2024, to February 14, 2025. On launch day, this game will also be accessible on Steam. To make up for the delay, players who have already pre-ordered the game will receive a refund. Those yet to pre-order can look forward to receiving a future expansion as a free bonus.

The reason for AC: Shadows‘s revised release date is due to two main factors. Initially, Ubisoft decided that the game needed additional refinement to ensure a smoother launch compared to Star Wars: Outlaws, whose sales were disappointingly lower than anticipated. Secondly, this adjustment was also influenced by Ubisoft’s updated financial objectives for the current fiscal year (2024-2025) and their strategy in game publishing. Ubisoft revealed further details in a document published today.

  1. The company is moving away from offering paid early access to the game, which was guaranteed in more expensive editions. All players will be able to start playing in Assassin’s Creed: Shadows on February 14, 2025.
  2. From now on, new Ubisoft games will be released on Steam on the launch day. On Valve’s platform, Star Wars: Outlaws will appear on November 21, 2024. Meanwhile, the team responsible for that title set in the Star Wars universe will work on enhancing the game to improve the offered experience and attract a larger audience.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share some insightful thoughts from Yves Guillemot, the esteemed CEO and co-founder of Ubisoft, who, much like the entire organization, is currently undergoing an inquiry.

Our second quarter results didn’t meet our targets, which necessitates immediate and decisive action on our part. I want to emphasize that we are primarily an entertainment company, dedicated to crafting games that cater to the widest range of audiences, and not to promote any particular ideology. We remain steadfast in our goal to develop games that provide entertainment for all players alike.

Ubisoft chose to pull out from Tokyo Game Show 2024 due to some valid reasons, given the heated reactions and debates surrounding their new game installment in the popular series. This game, since its initial trailer, has sparked intense feelings among players, with many expressing concerns about its portrayal of Japanese culture, causing a significant amount of controversy.
