As a seasoned witch with decades of experience under my broomstick, I must say this latest ordeal has been quite the whirlwind. The young ones today, with their smartphones and social media, have no idea how the old ways truly work!
In Episode 3 of “Agatha All Along,” our title character, the witch, along with her fellow witches, encounter their initial harrowing challenge as they traverse the path known as the witches’ road.
In Episode 3, viewers got a glimpse into just how daunting the path to fulfilling Agatha and her coven’s aspirations could become, showcasing its terrifying aspects.
Instead of being within Westview belonging to the Scarlet Witch, it’s clear that the team has left this location, as their initial challenge along the witches’ path required them to tackle some of their most profound and terrifying anxieties.
As a gaming enthusiast diving back into Episode 3, I can’t help but notice one massive clue about who might be the antagonist of our series. So, let’s delve right in and chat about the latest developments, but remember: major spoilers lie ahead!
The journey begins
As I settle down to watch, the screen greets me with the intriguing title, “Through Many Miles of Tricks and Trials,” hinting that the coven I admire is about to embark on a challenging journey, pursuing the immense power they strive for.
Each member of the coven responds differently to their journey along the witches’ path. For instance, Teen finds it as she envisioned, while Lilia and Alice express surprise, revealing they had doubts about the road’s existence initially.
Sharon abruptly interrupts their discussions by alleging they’ve kidnapped her and attempting to contact local law enforcement using her phone. However, it turned out that Verizon’s service doesn’t extend to supernatural realms.
As I huddled with Lilia, Alice, and Jennifer in the cellar below, we all let out a collective gasp. We had been cornered by none other than Salem’s Seven – the series’ main antagonist (at least for now).
Jennifer dismisses the group as merely “Agatha’s issue,” but Alice corrects her, pointing out that the Seven are now a collective concern for everyone, and Teen suggests it might be because “witches, when bound in a coven, share both blessings and burdens equally.” This implies that witches abide by a strict code of conduct when they form a coven.
Even though Sharon believes the group is hiding beneath Westview, Jennifer fiercely challenges Agatha for including a non-witch among them, expressing concern that this action jeopardizes everyone’s safety as they don’t fully understand the threats they face.
Later on, Lilia remembers the line “conquer your fears” from the Witches’ Ballad and realizes that the coven must encounter their most terrifying experiences as trials along their journey if they are to reach their destination successfully.
Afterward, the team queries Agatha about the nature of the trials since she’s previously embarked on this path. She clarifies that each station serves to assess the wisdom and abilities of a solitary witch. Consequently, participating in these trials may jeopardize the entire group, but only one individual will possess the capability to safeguard their lives.
A teen shows great enthusiasm about encountering real witchcraft, causing Jennifer to question who he is, as a cryptic emblem hides his identity once more.
Later on, Lilia comes to understand that a concealing charm – specifically, a sigil spell – has been cast upon Teen. This magical enchantment is designed to keep his true identity hidden from the group. Initially, she assumes Agatha must be responsible for this, but Agatha vehemently denies any involvement.
As a curious fan, I myself was puzzled when I came across the term ‘sigil’. But then, the wise Alice elucidated that it’s essentially a concealment tool used to keep people hidden from witches, ensuring their safety in the magical realm.
According to a widely-held belief, the character known as Teen might actually be Wanda Maximoff’s son. It’s possible that the sigil is concealing his identity so Agatha doesn’t target him. However, there are other theories about who Teen could be, which we’ll explore further on.
As the team aims to attempt lifting the sigil with the hope of discovering both the identity of Teen and the caster of the spell upon him, Agatha redirects their focus towards navigating the challenges along the path. The women concur to delve deeper into the matter at a later time.
Despite the coven eagerly preparing to resume their activities, they encounter another halt when Teen notices that Sharon has stepped away from them during the interrogation of Agatha.
Even though she thinks she’s still living in the physical world, Sharon perches on a lichen-covered log, setting her bag beside her while pondering her next action.
All of a sudden, a dark, gooey substance began to draw Sharon’s purse into itself. As she attempted to pull it back, the goo became so powerful that it threatened to drag her in too. Just when things seemed dire, Alice arrived in time to prevent Sharon from being swallowed up by the ooze.
Later on, Agatha clarifies the initial guideline for their adventure: never leave the path unless you’re prepared to face danger that could potentially prove fatal.
Togetherness is what the group decides on, and it’s at this point that Jennifer spots a beach house near the sea in the distance, indicating they’ve reached their initial destination along the road – a sign that the coven has arrived.
Life’s a beach
Upon reaching home, they notice the symbols on the front door depict various moon stages, and the illuminated one signifies the water phase, which we know as a full moon.
As they step into the unsecured residence, the attire of the group miraculously shifts to casual, breezy garments fit for a beach day. Agatha clarifies that such wardrobe transformations are not unusual for their coven, suggesting that this won’t be the only time they experience outfit changes in this manner.
Whilst scouring the house for hints, the teenager discovers an elegant invitation card on the fireplace hearth with the message: “You are cordially invited to the First Trial by The Witches’ Road.
Jennifer picks it up from him, revealing a riddle on the other side: “I have no worth in years, I’m not enjoyable by myself, I confuse your thoughts. The tricks I play are quite renowned.
After finding a bottle of wine along with five glasses arranged on a table, Sharon and her coven decide to consume the wine since the riddle hinted at this action.
The group splits up into small duos for the purpose of locating a corkscrew, and during this time, Jennifer uses the moment to advise Teen to stay cautious around Agatha.
As Teen dismisses Jennifer’s counsel, she instead reveals to him that many in the magical realm suspect Agatha bartered her son, Nicholas, for the Darkhold, also known as the Book of the Damned.
The teenager appears quite distressed upon learning this secret, whether it’s sheer astonishment that his admired figure could perform such an evil deed or if it supports the notion that he might be Agatha’s son, concealing his true identity.
Jennifer elaborates, stating that it’s unclear what became of the child, with some people speculating that he might be deceased, a supernatural entity like a demon, or even an emissary from Marvel Comics’ depiction of the devil, Mephisto.
For the first time within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), the name Mephisto has been mentioned, leaving many fans speculating that he could appear in WandaVision due to his strong comic book ties with the Scarlet Witch. Although it remains uncertain how the devil will fit into this series, it’s evident that his presence is set to become more significant as the show progresses.
Down the hatch
Following the discovery of the corkscrew, it was decided by Agatha, Sharon, Lilia, Alice, and Jennifer that they would pour themselves a glass of wine since Teen, being a minor, isn’t allowed to partake legally.
In a hurry, Sharon downs two drinks to ease the tension caused by being deceived into embarking on this assignment. As soon as she finishes, a 30-minute clock starts ticking, marking the commencement of the trial.
As other women enjoy their wine, Agatha discreetly pours hers away towards a designated spot in a plant. Mysteriously, her glass fills up again as if by some unspoken rule, compelling everyone to keep drinking so the journey of the group can continue.
Afterwards, the group begins engaging in casual conversation, during which Teen queries Alice about the mystical emblem tattooed on her body, which signifies a protective charm against spells among witches.
Alice shared that her mother made her acquire something when they lived in Colorado at age thirteen because “all the women in my family are under a kind of family curse”. In response, the Teen mentioned that a lot of significant events occurred for them at the same age, possibly contributing to their identity development and potentially linking to popular theories.
The conversation abruptly ends as Jennifer notices Sharon’s face has significantly ballooned, and one by one, the other women, excluding Agatha, experience the same disturbing incident.
Jennifer swiftly realizes that the inflammation indicates their wine contained the toxic substance known as Alewife’s Revenge. She warns the group urgently, explaining that a speedy remedy is essential because they will soon encounter rapid heartbeats, hallucinations, and ultimately, death.
Agatha attempts to break out through the glass window by hurling a candlestick at it, yet the attempt only results in a large crack running down its center.
In short order, Sharon collapses due to the toxin. The team manages to force Agatha to consume the wine, ensuring that they all appear together in the trial as a single coven.
As the most skilled with potions among them, Jennifer swiftly assumes control and directs the team to go out in twos to find the essential ingredients required to concoct a remedy, which she will then prepare.
The nightmares come to life
As Lilia searches for oil, she enters a trance-like state and tells the witch, “Attempt to protect Agatha,” without realizing it. However, she snaps out of the trance before she has a chance to clarify her mysterious message.
Teen and Alice are assigned to find eucalyptus, which takes them to the house’s sauna. Inside the steamy room, Alice experiences a hallucination of her missing mother, August, who shouts that she “can’t shield” Alice from whatever is causing the deaths among the women in their family.
Jennifer stands solitarily in the kitchen, attempting to convert the deep sink into a temporary cauldron, when she’s ambushed by a man dressed like an antiquated doctor who labels her as a “troublesome woman,” subsequently trying to submerge her in the water-filled tub.
Lilia strays from her task alongside Agatha, guided by a young girl adorned in royal attire, who inquires in Italian, “Shall we take a peek?
Subsequently, she enters a chamber where a female body adorned in attire resembling the young girl lies on a table. As Lilia approaches, the woman’s eyes suddenly flicker open. A spectral figure cloaked and bearing a skull-like visage then emerges from behind.
Rushing out of the room, I collide with Agatha, my voice echoing in a panicked exclamation, “Morta! Tutti morti!” (Italian for “Dead! All dead!”)
The groups eventually gather in the kitchen, where it’s clear that everyone had undergone a terrifying, individual hallucination – everyone except Agatha, who consumed the wine later and therefore seems to be experiencing her symptoms more gradually.
Cooking up a cure
As I carefully pour each ingredient into the sink in a precise sequence, my heart skips a beat when the concoction transforms into a pink hue. A pang of concern stirs within me as I comprehend that this solution needs to simmer to achieve the ideal cerulean tint, a sign it’s safe for consumption.
Teen dashes to find a sous vide, a kitchen tool that heats water to a specific temperature so meat can be cooked evenly, and explains he knows what it is because “his dad loves his.”
Later, Jennifer assigns the task to Teen to stir the concoction in a counterclockwise direction using his dominant hand, as he’s the only one among them who didn’t consume the tainted wine and thus hasn’t experienced the loss of motor skills affecting the women.
Instead of pulling out a single strand of hair from her head and placing it into the sink for the potion’s preparation, the witch instructed everyone to do so. However, just as she was about to take her own hair, Agatha suddenly experienced a terrifying hallucination: a baby crib appeared in the kitchen.
Approaching curiously, she draws near to discover who might be beneath the covering, but instead finds herself staring at the ominous tome known as the Darkhold.
The teenager queries about the situation when she notices the frightened expression and the tears on a person’s face, but that individual dismisses her concerns, which seems to upset him.
Following the inclusion of everyone’s hair, the concoction subsequently transforms green, causing distress among the group since there are only two minutes left on the timer before their potential demise.
Jennifer begins to feel overwhelmed, yet Agatha reassures her, emphasizing that no one can strip her of the wisdom she possesses.
Next, the witch realizes that the remedy requires the uncontaminated blood, so they make a small cut on Teen’s hand above the sink. Eventually, the concoction changes to a beautiful cerulean color.
In each case, every witch – even Sharon who was unaware – consumes the antidote. Instantly, the kitchen’s oven door swings open, unveiling a path back to the road, just as a crack in the window expands and the house is swiftly inundated by seawater.
As the team rejoices over their win, with Jennifer taking a moment of self-congratulation, Teen shares a grim truth: “I’m sorry to say this, but Sharon didn’t make it.
