As a seasoned strategy gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that Crusader Kings 3: Roads to Power expansion has certainly piqued my interest! The sheer number of players flocking to the game post-release is a testament to its allure, and the positive response from the Paradox Interactive community is a promising sign.
You can now grab the latest expansion, titled “Roads to Power,” for Crusader Kings 3, a popular strategy game from Paradox Interactive, on Steam! This third addition costs $29.99.
Just wanted to mention, the launch of the DLC comes with a complimentary upgrade for the standard version of CK 3. The update, named Basileus (Version 1.13.0), brings forth several new features such as starting session in the year 1178, new government rules, designating characters as “conquerors”, historical figures appearing on the map, and the option to rename Byzantium with a variety of alternatives to pick from.
The full list of changes can be found in an announcement posted on Steam and the official Paradox Interactive forums.
Road to Power
It’s not a shock that the expansion “Roads to Power” drew massive audiences to Crusader Kings 3. Following its launch, an impressive 48,000 Steam users were concurrently playing the game, surpassing almost any previous peak in the last quarter, except for the three-day period from August 24 to 26. On August 25 alone, there were approximately 30,000 players engaged in the game.
Of course, popularity is one thing, but Paradox fans always have concerns about DLC, even the major ones (see Stellaris). Nonetheless, it seems that Roads to Power has been well received by players for now.
Keep in mind that it’s been just a day since the game’s release from the grand strategy genre, so there hasn’t been much time for players to test out the changes and new features. As a result, you might find a relatively small number of reviews on Steam, but out of 321 opinions shared so far, only 19 have been negative. This means that the expansion currently boasts a 93% positive rating.

It’s not hard to find complaints about the price, but they seem less frequent compared to, say, during the release of the second significant expansion pack. Generally, players feel that this time, the DLC content is worth what Paradox is charging (to some extent; at least it offers a good opportunity for modders to create additional content).
It’s not unexpected when users encounter issues with their saved games becoming corrupted following an update, given the scope of modifications. Some players have been somewhat frustrated due to the altered appearance of rulers, which can be hard to recognize at times. In such instances, it might be worthwhile to revert to a prior version of Crusader Kings 3, which can be achieved by accessing the “Beta” section in the game’s properties on Steam.
Nonetheless, for now it seems that Roads to Power hasn’t disappointed players.
