Steve Aoki concert goes viral after EDM artist cakes young boy in the face

As a longtime enthusiast of EDM and live performances, I must say that Steve Aoki never fails to deliver an unforgettable show. His latest cake-throwing antics at Eisenhower Park in New York were nothing short of entertaining!

In a recent event, a young boy found himself as the recipient of Steve Aoki’s signature move – getting covered in cake. This incident occurred while he was perched atop his father’s shoulders. Amidst a close call that almost led to him falling to the ground, social media users are sharing their amusement over this popular video clip.

Last Friday, September 20, music producer Steve Aoki performed at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, NY. In keeping with a custom from past concerts, he playfully tossed a cake into the crowd, hitting one lucky fan during his set.

Instead, on this occasion, the focus shifted towards a smaller subject – a youth perched atop his father’s shoulders.

In much the same way as many other attempts, Aoki struck the child squarely on the face. The child, adorned with a mask emblazoned with the word “cake” at its center, came precariously close to tumbling off his father’s shoulders. Remarkably, those in the crowd behind them managed to lift the child back up before he could hit the ground.

With icing all over him, the boy laughed it off – as did his father. The duo then continued to jam out to Aoki’s performance, which was to help Nassau County celebrate its 125th anniversary.

Following the widespread popularity of a blunder in the video on TikTok, Aoki remarked that the boy handled it admirably, using the phrase “he took it like a trooper.

Several other spectators concurred with him, expressing that the video was side-splittingly funny. One person even said, “He handled that with grace, he’ll never forget this!” accompanied by smiling-face-with-tears-of-joy emojis.

“He was such a good sport, I love it,” added another.

Some audience members even giggled as they noticed that the young lad initially seemed on the verge of tears, but his demeanor brightened when he understood that everyone was encouraging him instead.

Despite it being a new experience for such a young child to have cake smeared on their face, it’s not a novelty for Aoki, as they’ve been tossing sheet cakes at audience members’ faces since May 2011. In fact, during every show, Aoki selects at least one fortunate spectator to be the recipient of this cake-throwing tradition.

The custom originated when the ‘Voices In My Head’ artist was moved by another musician’s tune. Specifically, in 2011, Autoerotique unveiled “Turn Up the Volume,” complete with a video showcasing cakes bursting in people’s faces. This amusing spectacle inspired Aoki to initiate the well-loved tradition of cake tossing shortly thereafter.

Apart from Aoki’s spectacular cake toss on a Friday evening, another reason why a summer concert has become widely popular online this year also exists.

In July, a security guard at a festival began to cry during a performance, prompting many on the internet to sympathize with his tears. And in August, a Blink-182 fan went viral for singing the wrong words after being invited on stage by the group.
