The upcoming Supergirl movie aims to bring together DC Universe heroes Woman of Tomorrow and Superman, and new footage highlights their connection.

Craig Gillespie directs the new film Supergirl, starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, the last daughter of Krypton and cousin to Superman (played by David Corenswet). Alcock first appeared as Supergirl in last year’s Superman movie, alongside her dog Krypto, who also plays a key role in this story. The cast also includes Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Matthias Schoenaerts, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa.

Okay, so we’re getting a clearer picture of what to expect from Supergirl before it hits theaters in June. The latest trailers and clips show a really interesting dynamic between Superman – David Corenswet is back in the role – and Kara Zor-El as she first arrives on Earth. We actually see their first meeting, and it’s sweet! More importantly, Superman is mentoring her, helping her figure out her powers. It’s a nice touch that adds a lot of context and builds excitement for the film.

The Supergirl videos combine action sequences with narration. While most of Superman’s dialogue is added to existing footage, the videos do show the first time Clark and Kara meet. Superman greets his cousin with a cheerful “Hi there” as he opens her escape pod. This scene also provides a fresh look at Kara’s pod, her spacesuit, and her dog, Krypto.

More of the conversation reveals that Corenswet’s character is assisting Kara in adjusting to life on Earth. He appears to be teaching her how to manage the powers Kryptonians develop under Earth’s yellow sun, as he says, “Your powers are going to start kicking in right about… now!” Another line playfully references the iconic, bright costumes of Superman and Supergirl. Clark explains, “I know it’s pretty colorful, but that’s just so everyone knows we’re good.” This exchange might be when Superman gives his cousin her suit, though the scene’s full context isn’t yet known.

In a new scene, Ruthye and Kara are talking about Superman. Kara says, “He always looks for the best in people; I focus on what’s real.” This line, which we’ve heard before, now makes sense – it explains why Supergirl was bringing up her cousin. Interestingly, Ruthye actually names Superman, suggesting his heroic deeds are already famous, not just on Earth, but throughout the universe.

Recent scenes suggest Clark Kent’s relationship with Kara Zor-El—as both a mentor and cousin—will be more important than we initially believed, though the show will always center on Supergirl. Their connection appears to be a key part of the future of the DC Universe, and Kara is set to appear in the upcoming 2027 Superman movie, Man of Tomorrow.

Supergirl releases in theaters on June 26, 2026.
