CD Projekt RED Confirms Witcher 4 To Wrap Up Pre-Production Shortly

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I must say that the anticipation for CD Projekt RED‘s upcoming Witcher game, codenamed “Polaris,” is palpable. Having grown up with the original Witcher series and witnessing the incredible evolution of its world and storyline, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia mixed with excitement at the prospect of a new installment in this beloved RPG saga.

CD Projekt RED, the Polish game developer, recently unveiled their financial report for the first half of the year, detailing their performance during this period and their reflections on it. This report was made publicly available online, and a summary video was uploaded to their YouTube channel where they discussed updates on key projects in various stages of development, including the upcoming game within the Witcher series.

Under the working title “Polaris,” it’s officially confirmed that this upcoming project will be the next installment in the renowned RPG series. The developer has announced that pre-production on this game is nearly complete. Additionally, they expressed their gratitude to fans for their support after launching the REDkit modding tool for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, a game that will mark its tenth anniversary in 2025.

As announced by the developer, they’re preparing to initiate the main production stage for Project Polaris – the inaugural part of the upcoming Witcher series. To quote Joint CEO Michał Nowakowski, “The team behind Polaris has been making steady progress and is approaching a significant milestone that will signify the conclusion of the pre-production phase.”

It remains uncertain when Project Polaris will start mass production, but the development crew is making significant strides in creating the game, notably expanding their dedicated team for Polaris. This information was shared during their earnings call in March 2024, where a slide showed the number of developers assigned to the upcoming Witcher project. Interestingly, a substantial portion of the Cyberpunk team moved over after Phantom Liberty’s launch to work on this new project.

In terms of Project Polaris, there were minor adjustments made that didn’t significantly impact the development team. Yet, a substantial number of developers remain committed to The Witcher project. As usual, no specific launch date or timeline for Polaris has been given, as the studio is preparing to dive headfirst into full production on this project very soon.
