As a seasoned Guardian with years of combat under my belt, I can’t help but marvel at the latest addition to my arsenal – the Speleologist Solar machine gun. This rapid-fire beauty is like a breath of fresh air, offering a perfect balance of firepower and versatility in the heat of battle.
In the closing act of Destiny 2’s first expansion, Echoes, both activities and your weapon inventory receive a revamp. A new Solar machine gun, Speleologist, serves as an effective substitute for Fixed Odds from the Duality dungeon. This gun enables you to unleash significant damage on tough foes or swiftly eliminate numerous smaller ones. The rapid-fire design of this machine gun fires ammunition at a rate of 900 rounds per minute, making it incredibly efficient at clearing out enemies, particularly in high-level content. Furthermore, with Solar-specific perks that are exceptionally beneficial, the optimal build for Speleologist synergizes well with other Echoes weapons and enhances your Solar-centric gameplay.

How To Get Speleologist
In line with other Echoes weapons, Speleologist can be obtained from the episode’s loot collection. It’s primarily earned as a chance drop after completing Echoes activities such as Battlegrounds, Enigma Protocol, and Breach Executable. Completing the weekly story missions for Echoes will also award you one opportunity to roll for the weapon, adding it to your inventory.

- Appended Mag: +14 Magazine
- Tactical Mag: +7 Magazine, +5 Stability, +10 Reload Speed
- First Perk: Enlightened Action / Envious Assassin
- Enlightened Action: Dealing damage significantly improves reload speed and handling.
- Envious Assassin: Defeating targets with other weapons before drawing this one transfers additional ammo to the magazine from reserves. This effect can overflow the magazine based on the number of targets defeated.
- Second Perk: Incandescent / Killing Tally
- Incandescent: Defeating a target spreads a longer lasting scorch to those nearby. More powerful combatants and opposing Guardians cause scorch in a larger radius.
- Killing Tally: Final blows increase this weapon’s damage until it is stowed or reloaded. Improves magazine size.
- Masterwork: Stability
A Speleologist works effectively as a Solar machine gun for PvE, particularly excelling in clearing out large groups of enemies swiftly. Although it might not be the top choice, its perks are consistently useful even without a build that heavily complements them. In terms of barrel and magazine, focus on stability to ensure consistent critical hits during rapid-fire sessions. Enhancements that increase magazine size, handling, and reload speed are also beneficial for swift weapon swaps, high rate of fire, and quick return to combat.
As a gamer, I’d say one strategy that works for me is choosing between Enlightened Action and Envious Assassin for perks. Enlightened Action boosts my reload speed, which helps compensate for not focusing on other stats. On the other hand, Envious Assassin lets me pack as many bullets into my first magazine as I can.

- Firmly Planted: Greatly increased accuracy, stability, and handling when firing while crouched.
- Second Perk: Killing Tally
- Killing Tally: Final blows increase this weapon’s damage until it is stowed or reloaded. Improves magazine size.\
- Masterwork: Stability
A speleologist might not be your ideal choice for a PvP machine gun, but it can still get the job done. When it comes to Crucible guns, the range is crucial, but you should also enhance stability to keep your shots accurate. Slideways and Firmly Planted will both increase stability and aid in quick kills, so choose the one that suits your gameplay style best. For additional perks, Killing Tally can be beneficial if you can string together multiple kills with a speleologist, boosting your damage without any extra effort.
