The Last Of Us Season 2 Actor Responds To Abby Haters, Reminds People She Is Not A Real Person

As a passionate fan who has spent countless hours immersed in the post-apocalyptic world of “The Last of Us,” I can’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration for the cast and crew who bring this gripping narrative to life, especially amidst the turbulence that seems to follow certain characters like Abby.

In Season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us, we encounter characters from the video game The Last of Us Part II, such as Abby. This character stirred up much debate when the game was released in 2020, and it seems that similar discussions may arise with Abby on the TV series. Actress Isabela Merced, who plays Dina in Season 2, addressed the controversy surrounding Abby during an interview, stating, “There are certainly some peculiar individuals out there.” Additionally, she reminded people that Abby, portrayed by Kaitlyn Dever in the show, doesn’t pose any threat as she is just a fictional character.

In his interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Merced mentioned that there are individuals who truly dislike a fictional character named Abby, to clarify, Abby is not a real person.

It was further mentioned that during the production of The Last of Us Season 2, Kaitlyn Dever, who portrays Abby, required increased security measures. This is because Laura Bailey, the Abby character from the game, faced death threats, harassment, and even threats against her newborn baby due to her role in the series.

As a devoted admirer, I’d put it like this: “During the shooting, Kaitlyn required special security measures. This incredible individual maintains an unruffled demeanor, staying unfazed by all that comes their way, and always keeps things in perspective.” – Merced

During the filming of The Last of Us Season 2, Dever experienced a profound personal loss when her mother passed away from breast cancer this year.

“Give her the damn Emmy. I’m so excited for people to see how incredibly well [Ellie actor Bella Ramsey] and Kaitlyn did on this. I’m so excited,” Merced said.

Additionally, during the interview, Merced addressed criticism towards the television series in a broader sense, expressing her puzzlement as to why viewers seem so agitated.

Merced stated, “The showrunner [Craig Mazin] and the creator of the video game [Neil Druckmann] are joining forces for this project. If you appreciate their previous work, wouldn’t you be excited about more of it? Yet, I see some people expressing anger. I might even get as vocal as Cardi B on Twitter if I were to engage with them.”

In 2025, we can anticipate the debut of Season 2 of “The Last of Us.” Unlike its predecessor which had nine episodes, this one will only have seven. Although there are plans for a third season, an official confirmation is yet to be made.

As for the game series, Naughty Dog has heavily teased The Last of Us: Part III.

In a February 2024 interview, Druckmann expressed that he had been searching for a concept for The Last of Us 3, but only recently found it. Although he doesn’t yet have a full story, he is thrilled about the concept, which he finds as captivating as the first two games. This new idea not only stands on its own, but also ties together all three stories, suggesting that there may indeed be one more installment in this narrative.
