In this game, as Vic endeavors to purify the animals using a magical staff given by her new companions, the corrupted creatures attack aggressively. However, Vic’s abilities are centered on dodging, jumping, rolling, and thwarting the animals’ attacks rather than retaliating with violence.
The staff that flows like a firehose needs time to cleanse each creature, making each battle a situation where managing crowds is crucial, as you need to dodge damage until the animals are rid of the infection. An interesting aspect of this system is how the flowing stream of purifying power can inadvertently affect other creatures that pass through it, leading to a chain reaction of cleansings, which could be humorously referred to as a series of enjoyable exorcisms.
During these encounters, the camera can be quite bothersome since it doesn’t autonomously adjust to keep Vic in focus when animals dart off-screen and surround her. This results in a situation where I find myself needing an additional hand or even a second thumb just to maneuver the camera, all while I’m moving, casting cleansing spells, and utilizing Vic’s other abilities simultaneously.

I’m truly appreciative that the developers found a way to break away from traditional video game norms of brute-forcing an enemy.
It’s equally crucial to capture images of the animals, whether they are infected or not, because these photos provide valuable details about each species, such as their unique abilities. This process accumulates a wealth of information, your personal photographs, and fun facts, making it exciting to find the ideal shot, even when a creature is coming straight for your shins. After being purified, Vic can play tunes that guide the animals to follow her commands. In this state, she can train them to solve environmental puzzles, help with platforming as needed, and eventually lead them to designated areas where they can be transported onto the ark.
The puzzles aren’t incredibly challenging, but there’s a fun learning process in identifying obstacles and determining which creatures you should try to win over to progress. However, I sometimes found it tough to move around the world, as its layout can get perplexing, and certain regions can only be reached by particular paths that are prone to being overlooked or forgotten.
In summary, the aimless roaming wasn’t entirely wasted, as the four expansive game hubs are brimming with intriguing sites at every turn. These include enlightening collectibles steeped in lore, enhancements for Vic’s health, stamina, and storage capacity, and additional means to progress her level and accumulate more skill points to customize her abilities. I managed to complete the 11-hour game within two sessions due to its captivating nature, despite its flaws; it was hard to tear myself away from it.
In this game, I found several side quests particularly touching because they offered opportunities to meet more characters, such as an elderly villager who couldn’t journey to a cherished waterfall.
