As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for British television and an uncanny knack for spotting talent, I must say that the appointment of Suzy Lamb as head of the new U.K. entertainment division at BBC Studios is nothing short of a masterstroke. With her extensive background in the industry, from her stints at talkbackThames to her time spent at NBC in L.A., she has proven herself to be a formidable force in the world of entertainment.
BBC Studios have established a fresh entertainment branch within the U.K., with Suzy Lamb appointed as its leader. Sources at EbMaster report this development.
The latest unit emerges following the merger of BBC Studios’ commercial wing responsible for creating global content sales, which encompasses both their entertainment/music and factual entertainment/events sectors. This amalgamation includes the production of various events like the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, King Charles III’s coronation celebration, shows such as “Strictly Come Dancing” and “The Weakest Link”.
To separate U.K. entertainment responsibilities enables Lamb and her team to handle their tasks related to development, production, and format sales more effectively. Previously serving as managing director for the entertainment and music division, Lamb will now take charge of strategic planning in terms of creativity, commerce, and operations. She reports directly to Matt Forde, who heads BBC Studios’ global entertainment sector.
One of the programs that the newly established U.K. branch will create includes the BBC’s live coverage of Glastonbury, “Strictly Come Dancing,” and “Alison Hammond’s Big Weekend.” (or)
Since 2018, Lamb has been a part of Studios. Previously, she held the position of head of entertainment at talkbackThames, where she managed shows such as “Take Me Out” with Paddy McGuinness and “All Star Family Fortunes.” Before this role, she gained experience working at the BBC and spent two years at NBC in Los Angeles.
Katie Brewer, who has been overseeing factual entertainment and events as the current director of production (including “Dragon’s Den” and Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral), is set to assume the role of Director of Production for the U.K.’s new entertainment unit. Prior to joining Studios in 2021, Brewer served as the Director of Production for a collection of labels at Banijay’s RDF.
“Forde stated that the rapid development of the worldwide entertainment industry places our new U.K. entertainment branch at the forefront of our global division, fueling growth and expanding upon the achievements of its current hits. I’m eager to witness the innovative content they will produce under Suzy’s guidance.”
“Lamb expressed enthusiasm about taking charge of the upcoming British entertainment division at BBC Studios. With an existing lineup flourishing and numerous fresh concepts on their way, he finds this period particularly invigorating.”
